Identification

13cm. Dark olive brown upperparts, wings and tail, paler underparts, rust brown throat, breast and flanks, grey belly, black bill, brown legs, short white supercilium. Females and juveniles dull brown, white belly, rufous wings and tail, weaker supercilium.

Distribution

Bhutan, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Taxonomy

There are 14 subspecies.

Habitat

Mountain areas, broadleaf and mixed forests.

Behaviour

The diet includes insects, larvae, berries, seeds, sprouts and buds of plants.

The moss and grass nest is placed in dense shrubs.
