Epthianura albifrons

Identification

White face, breast and belly, black band across the breast extending to the back of the head. Females have similar markings but grey-brown, rather than black-white, narrower breast band. Immatures are similar to the female, but the breast band is very faint or missing.

Distribution

Across southern Australia.

Taxonomy

Habitat

Salt marsh, damp areas with low vegetation, swampy farmland, edges of lakes.

Behaviour

The diet includes insects such as midges, kelp-flies, plant bugs and beetles.

The female builds the nest, but both parents incubate the eggs and care for the young.
