Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay.

Four subspecies:

  • K. a. heterogyna
  • K. a. anthracinus
  • K. a. aterrimus
  • K. a. franciscanus

K. a. franciscanus is sometimes split as Caatinga, Sao Francisco or Brazilian Black-Tyrant.
