Identification

38–44 cm

  • Green uppperparts
  • Red underparts
  • Golden-yellow undertail coverts
  • Short yellow line behind eye
  • Blue breast-band
  • Blue-grey bill with narrow white line at base
  • White throat
  • Central tail feathers tipped chestnut
  • White band around base of tail

Distribution

South America: found locally in mountains of northern Peru (San Martín and La Libertad).

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Found in the canopy of montane cloud forest.

Behaviour

Their diet consists mainly of fruit and seeds, but insects and other animals are also thought to be consumed.
