18.5 cm. Dark grey, black crown, throat, wings and tail, olive tinge to the belly and breast, bright yellow thighs. Young birds have duller, sootier plumage with a brown tone to the underparts, and olive-brown thighs.

Costa Rica and western Panama.

Wet mountain forests, second growth, bamboo clumps, scrubby pasture and bushy clearings.

[edit] Behaviour

The female build the cup shaped nest, of plant material, hidden in coarse grasses, bamboo or a thickly-foliaged tree. 2 brown-blotched white or pale blue eggs are laid and are incubated by the female for 12-14 days.

The diet includes insects, spiders, berries and nectar.
