Identification
15 cm (6 in)
- Dark eye-stripe
- White supercilium
- No wing bars
- Rear flanks and vent usually pale to slightly buffy.
- Brown eye
Similar species
Black-whiskered Vireo has less contrasting eye-stripe but has a malar stripe. Red-eyed Vireo and Yellow-green Vireo also both have weaker facial pattern and most often reddish eyes. Red-eyed Vireo shows greenish or yellowish rear flank and vent often appearing darker than rest of underside, with that area appearing pale in Yucatan Vireo.
Distribution
East coast of Yucatan (Mexico), Belize, Honduras, Grand Cayman Island; may occur as vagrant elsewhere (for example one occurrence in Texas (the United States) from 1984).

This is a polytypic species, consisting of two subspecies[1]:
- V.m. magister:
- Yucatan Peninsula, Belize, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres and adjacent islands
- V.m. caymanensis:
Habitat
Lowland forests, edges, and mangroves.
Behaviour
Diet
Likes to feed on fruit in dense vegetation, but can also take invertebrates.
