Identification
10 cm
A distinctive Red Bishop which shows far more black than the other species. In particular most individuals show no red from throat to belly (some inland Kenyan birds do have scattered red feathers on the throat).
Dull and sparrow-like in non-breeding plumage.
Distribution
East Africa: found from southeastern Kenya to eastern Tanzania, Zanzibar, Pemba, and northern Mozambique.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Reed beds, coastal scrub and cultivated areas.
Behaviour
Diet
The diet consists mostly of seeds.
