Are the paths good at Potteric, Keith. Or will it be a wellie job? Will bring them just in case.

Weather should be OK - sunny periods. Hope to be meeting 'bstr' (Ian) and his wife there too.

Most of the paths are good Sandra, but having said that with the weather lately they may be muddy. Wellies might be a good idea, shame I've not got any.
Ah so another BFer coming along ...bstr..... my BF 200 list will be into double figures tomorrow.

Rather to my chagrin, Sandra, the paths are those "lovely" gravel ones almost throughout. In fact there is one path closed because it's muddy! I will have wellies with me as always but will be going round the reserve in walking boots. Is it just me that would rather see my YWT subscription spent on habitat for wildlife than habitat for wimpy humans?

See you all tomorrow

Graham

Would rather see it spent on Wheldrake ;) Btw grapevine tells me that reserve guy has been told to keep more water on the bottom of the reserve and not open the flood gates by a newly formed management committee. Which is good.

Splendid! Wish they'd also instruct him not to:
a) drive across in front of occupied hides, scattering wildfowl
b) let his dog chase off all the remaining birds

Keith will post up the full score, but we had some day! Sorry, James, but you will be so jealous - you know when people tell you they had all three woodpeckers in the same tree and you think, "yeah, right"?

And i have spent the day relearning the TCA cycle and dreaming of bitterns. Bar stewards

Report in process of being typed up.
Hopefully tonight, if not tomorrow for sure.
I think it is safe to say that one or two good birds were seen by all of the group.

What a cliffhanger! Not to worry - if you feel how I do after 5 hours of tramping in the glorious but cold winded day, Moore N/R - you'll leave it till tomorrow. (or even longer..) - the pleasure is sometimes in the anticipation?

I did see a distant group of small birds that flew into some long grass in a fenced off field, but I'm pretty sure they were Skylark. As for the owls, I think it was too wet and windy.

Figured this should probably be here and not in the other thread. I was planning to go to Flamborough tomorrow but the forecast is for 40mph easterlies, which is not ideal for muddy cliff-top east coast birding. Maybe Sunday instead. May go look for the Bewick's etc. in the LDV instead.

Still haven't seen a SEO since November. Is anyone seeing any in Yorkshire?

Got the girlfriend up this week or I would be very tempted to join you. The SEO are showing at Bempton RSPB, although not as often as they did winter before last. Have a good weekend every one- I'm going ****** shopping!

Classification in Zoology and Botany was alright but difficult to get everything in. Microbiology and biochem was not too bad, just hope i got my ATP and NADP's in the right places.

I'm PM-ing you and Keith about SEOs, Graham.

Keith Dickinson Saturday 20th January 2007 19:44

Thanks Sandra. BTW where's the photo of me with the bacon doorstop on Sunday?

Lawts Saturday 20th January 2007 21:35

I see there are a couple of Bean Geese at Fairburn with 40+ Pink-feet. I may try for those in my dinner hour on Monday. If anyone knows where exactly on the reserve they are showing please let me know - it would give me a fighting chance of making it back to the office in time for a butty.
