Seems to be cranes everywhere - one over skipwith as well.

James Thomas Friday 29th May 2009 14:23

Don't be far from your bins! Just seen a big raptor way up heading north towards Leeds. Would lean towards osprey if anything but too high to have any confidence.

Chuff! Just checked on Birdguides, possible White tailed eagle in Derbyshire two hours earlier.

Very gratifying this morning to find 2 Redstarts holding territory & a parachuting Tree Pipit in East Yorkshire - both species are very thin on the ground round here in the breeding season!

Secret Twitcher Friday 29th May 2009 16:43

Anyone know if the crane is still viewable at fairburn? no update on birdguides. Cheers

Secret Twitcher Friday 29th May 2009 17:41

Distant marsh harrier and a few yellow wag.
Corn bunting on wires on the way home.

I need to build more up! The trouble is the Jan - March period of being at home is soon forgotten when April/May come along and I'm going off all the time and there are jobs to be done etc.

Just done Kent twice this month so I'm using them up!

Anyhow, I've decided to wait for news, probably go Sunday or early tomorrow if it comes through - Any one interested in sharing?

Reason for delay - a) Understand pattern - especially if tidal - I can't cope with another Great Dot, b) Some doubts being expressed over id - but I think it will be positively identified. It's just that views tonight were distant.

I've dipped two of these plus observed a distant dot which I refused to tick.

Mr Whiskers showing well tonight - thanks Marcus - Sunday??

May go early hours tomorrow if body clock wakes me - set for about 4:00am - ..............can't decide!

Trying to keep powder dry for Westerns Sand. as well.

Could do with this being re-i'd as a Knot.

The peep is western sand, the wader will prove to be great knot and i hope you are aware of the secondary debate on the sussex prat. Dilemmas, dilemmas. Just how dry is your powder??:t::t:

Swinemoor: Garganey, 3 Little egrets.
A singing Chiffchaff was a welcome diversion during a game of football with my daughter at Queen Elizabeth playing fields, Hull.

At the moment the Great Knot is looking less than certain. I decided not to go. The peep didn't show. I don't need Oriental. It's cool.

You'd need to head into the woods North of the Abbey, i.e. Strid Wood. They show from wherever there is dense deciduous cover, usually best on the Eastern side by the strange stone hut where people feed birds, about half way up the wood.

Heard a Quail calling from a field near north marsh this morning, otherwise very quiet indeed on the head for migrants
