Distance too Spurn isn't a problem, as I'm staying in the area over the weekend. Would be a shame if I couldn't drive down to the point, though.
Since I haven't been able to get hold of the map on the Observatory website (but do have maps of the peninsula), which area is the triangle? It's not marked specifically on any map I can find. |

Done. Thank-you!

Excellent day back north of Wharfedale. Weeton to Stainburn forest to Pool. Skylarks calling all the way up to the forest, plus Meadow Pipits. Steady number of Buzzard - 15+, and 5 Red Kites and a sparrow hawk. Highlights on way up were 120+ Redwing in flight, 80+ Golden Plover in flight, plus 16 Golden Plover on the ground about thirty feet from the path. Heard and saw Curlews all day. Forest itself bit disappointing, despite being 'busy' virtually impossible to see anything, apart from 2 Siskin.
In the pool to north of Lindley Wood reservoir 2 Great Crested Grebes (just swimming about) and lots of small woodland birds in woods by reservior and Washburn, inc. 3 Chiff Chaff seen close and another 3 calling. |
Steve, thanks for the Scoter info. - showing very well yesterday. Got some nice shots with the reflection of the buildings - light can be difficult though as the high buildings block out most light.
Common Scoter and a German U-boat in the centre of Leeds! Scoter looks a bit lost - diving but didn't see anything being eaten. I'd have thought there were snails etc. Hope it hangs around. Steve |

Pleasant walk early doors withthe dog this morning on Sun Lane LNR in Burley in Wharfedale.
Counted 6 Chiffchaffs & a singing male Blackcap establishing territories, calling Green Woodpecker & Tree Sparrows collecting material for the nest boxes. Richard |
Spurn road is open today till 4pm. Unfortunatly it will be a constant changing situation until after the 21 00 tide on Tuesday 10th.
Top of tide was fine tonight and sea flat calm, if it stays that way in morning road will be open Saturday |
I'm now convinced that a big crow-like bird say on my neighbour's roof earlier today was actually a Raven passing through Burley. Was much bigger than a crow & a had a deep, gutterel call. It had gone before I could get my bins on it though.

I'd have settled for a view of the Thayer's today, let alone a pic. Should have gone yesterday but waited a day to share petrol - fatal. Not much fun sat all day by the side of the A15 looking at a slurry tank :-C. |
I feel for you Steve, I've done that sort of thing at Blacktoft in the rain for a Cetti's, 3 hours it took me to decide that maybe the freaking thing ain't gonna show.
