Thank-you. Whilst I'm here, I notice the Spurn website is down for maintenance. I'd like to access the map that was on this page:

www.spurnbirdobservatory.co.uk/map.html

I can see it on Google's cache, but can't save and print it. Does anyone have it in to email me or a working link?

There was a Great Grey Shrike in the triangle area - on your right before the Spurn entrance. There was an influx of Thrushes today, plus 2 Black Redstarts at the very point. However, it is a hell of a long way, if the road is still closed tomorrow

Distance too Spurn isn't a problem, as I'm staying in the area over the weekend. Would be a shame if I couldn't drive down to the point, though.

Since I haven't been able to get hold of the map on the Observatory website (but do have maps of the peninsula), which area is the triangle? It's not marked specifically on any map I can find.

I have a copy of the map saved to my pc. If you send me your email I'll forward it to you

Excellent day back north of Wharfedale. Weeton to Stainburn forest to Pool. Skylarks calling all the way up to the forest, plus Meadow Pipits. Steady number of Buzzard - 15+, and 5 Red Kites and a sparrow hawk. Highlights on way up were 120+ Redwing in flight, 80+ Golden Plover in flight, plus 16 Golden Plover on the ground about thirty feet from the path. Heard and saw Curlews all day. Forest itself bit disappointing, despite being 'busy' virtually impossible to see anything, apart from 2 Siskin.
In the pool to north of Lindley Wood reservoir 2 Great Crested Grebes (just swimming about) and lots of small woodland birds in woods by reservior and Washburn, inc. 3 Chiff Chaff seen close and another 3 calling.

Steve, thanks for the Scoter info. - showing very well yesterday. Got some nice shots with the reflection of the buildings - light can be difficult though as the high buildings block out most light.

Common Scoter and a German U-boat in the centre of Leeds! Scoter looks a bit lost - diving but didn't see anything being eaten. I'd have thought there were snails etc. Hope it hangs around.

Steve

Pleasant walk early doors withthe dog this morning on Sun Lane LNR in Burley in Wharfedale.

Counted 6 Chiffchaffs & a singing male Blackcap establishing territories, calling Green Woodpecker & Tree Sparrows collecting material for the nest boxes.

Spurn road is open today till 4pm. Unfortunatly it will be a constant changing situation until after the 21 00 tide on Tuesday 10th.

Top of tide was fine tonight and sea flat calm, if it stays that way in morning road will be open Saturday

I'm now convinced that a big crow-like bird say on my neighbour's roof earlier today was actually a Raven passing through Burley. Was much bigger than a crow & a had a deep, gutterel call. It had gone before I could get my bins on it though.

Hope it stays because on a further review the shots of the bird aren't that great, but some lovely water reflections - no alterations to colour etc. done.

The SEO’s managed to flush out at least 6-8 snipe as they were hunting. Also great to meet up with yorkienuts again (lets see the pics!!) robin is an in joke (sorry!) :t:

Steve - you are too much a perfectionist, 80% of these shots are worthy of being turned into big posters. If I got only 3 shots out of 10 as good as yours with my little point and click camera - I'd be a very, very happy man, and I'd not really want to sit down until I'd changed my trousers...;)

trappeddownsouth Saturday 7th April 2012 20:56

does anyone know what kind of range the Shore Larks are at in Filey, and the if they are in full summer plumage?

Cheers keith.

I'd have settled for a view of the Thayer's today, let alone a pic. Should have gone yesterday but waited a day to share petrol - fatal. Not much fun sat all day by the side of the A15 looking at a slurry tank :-C.

Keith Dickinson Saturday 7th April 2012 21:05

I feel for you Steve, I've done that sort of thing at Blacktoft in the rain for a Cetti's, 3 hours it took me to decide that maybe the freaking thing ain't gonna show.

The pics are very good Steve, that lens has handled the reflections quite well. My fav is No2 on the first post, the pastel shading framing the bird gives a really calming effect....:t:

I don't wanna see the pics of the slurry tank though....:-O
