The HRWP is a very modern porro prism binocular, giving the user the benefits enjoyed by most users of roof prism binoculars, this being total water and fog proofing, internal focus and twist up eye cups.
This instrument is constructed to a very high standard in Japan as indicated by the 30 year warranty, a magnesium body wrapped in a high quality tactile rubber armor.
Clearly Opticron have employed the finest glass and prisms at their disposal, the view is outstanding, bright, crystal clear and razor sharp. If the HR in the title means "high resolution" then Opticron have surpassed expectations, put simply no comparably priced roof prism gets close, in fact, in my experience and opinion one needs to look at roof prism designs above 1k to match the resolution on offer here.
Both the 8x42 and 10x42 do suffer a narrow fov by comparison with pretty much everything else, its a great shame because for users who value an expansive view, the brilliance and sharpness will not compensate enough for them.
The focus is quite slow, however its buttery smooth and precise, the diopter works on the left eye piece, pulls out from the focuser and locks when set.
There is some minor CA on show at the edge of view under some conditions but I find it to be very minor. The image is sharp almost to the edge, with some distortion visible from around 50% out.
The depth of focus is good and like any good porro the image is "3d" in a way no roof can emulate and Birds really pop from the background, colours are very natural.
All in all the image quality is stupendous, if, like me you can get past the narrow fov you`ll be lost in a view like no other.
