Pros: Transmission
Cons: A bit too much C/A

The Zeiss Conquest range is generally undervalued in my opinion, and I found this and its sister 10x to be the pick of the range.

Incorporating the Abbe Koenig type prisms, which offer total internal reflection, no need for mirror coatings, these binoculars offer outstanding transmission at their price point, tested to 92/93%.

They are housed in a solid body which is reasonably light, well applied armour offers a sound grip, they are also comfortable to hold for long periods.

Single position twist up eye cups click positively into place and offer good eye relief. The focuser is smooth and relatively quick in operation but not super slick.

The view I find impressive, very bright and contrasty with neutral colour cast, Razor sharp over a good 70% of the fov but falls off at the edge somewhat. That fov is just about acceptable .

There is only one real criticism from me, that`s too much chromatic aberration in most conditions.
This is mostly at the outer 50% of the field and mostly on out of focus areas, subjects in sharp focus at the centre however are less affected.

To sum up, the Conquest 8x40 is, made to last a lifetime, razor sharp and very very bright.
