Nick I think you will end up finding the 5D4 to be a better "All Round" camera and a better birding camera in less than ideal conditions. Well that was my impression when I compared one to my 7D2...

You make a very good point! I am always seeing people with Alpha scopes on flimsy tripods and inadequate heads.

My scope is an old Kowa TSN 4 and the birders down at Goldcliffe were gobsmacked when...

It certainly looks Canon are looking into it - they will probably do a good job of FF Mirror less too (hopefully).

Unfortunately, with today's tech I can't see a use for mirror less cameras for...

So long as the clamp has a screw to lock it then any Arca style plate will do. Have a look on FleaBay - I like the Kiwifotos ones but there are plenty of cheaper alternatives. Start looking...

Glad to hear that you are happy with your new toy - enjoy!

Whilst I find my fluid head great for my scope I much prefer a gimbal head for photography.

Let us know how you get on.

The 7D2 and 400 F5.6 L will give you an excellent birding setup. We can squabble all day about who makes the best cameras, an though I am a Canon user, I believe that Canon do not necessarily make...

Certainly not a cheap option but I would suggest a Gimbal head. The (pricey) Wimberley 2 is nice but more than you need for a 300 F2.8. Perhaps one of the smaller Jobu or Lensmaster models?

Just my thoughts.

I use the 1DX and 7D2 and this crop factor "Reach" business mostly evades me. True, under ideal conditions, the 7D2 will give more reach than my 1DX - but how often do we get...

I have the Canon 300 F2.8 L IS Mk1 but I do not have a 5D4!

I do have a 1DX, 7D2, EOS 3, EOS 33V etc - they all work superbly with my Canon 300 F2.8. I would have no concerns about using one with a...

As far as I know you will only be able to use and extender/teleconverter in manual focus or live view modes with the 60D and those lenses. To use extenders with auto-focus you will need an F4 lens...

Not so sure. I used to have the Canon 600 F4 L IS (+ extenders) but I find the Canon 800 F5.6 L IS to be a significantly better lens on FF crop and film.
