Prods, like an oyster from the
Moon-pale skin of a birch...

Elusive Willow Tit

The fallen fence of shadow stripes
Lies flattened across the trail
The arched brow of a rainbow
Above the black-eyed sky
A crowd of ghost-like birches
Overstep the brambles
Then the tiny 'zi' of a...

The tripping tangle
Its thorny rise and thorny fall

Barn Owls

Dawn takes the overnight rain and lifts the sky.
A thousand Pink Feet in v lines:
Charcoal on the new page.
Their yapping yelps fill the cold morning,
Still and wet and pale and waking.

Blows in on the northerly, a rainbow arcs
Above the dunes.
The guttural grunts of Brent Geese
A basso profundo below the
Yapping yelps of Greylags.

Bullfinches, bound for hawthorn berries,
Bounce from bush to bush; blush and bulging.
