    7x43 ED3's - Have you pulled the trigger ?

Solution to the eye relief problem (for some users) I solved the problem of the excessive (for me) eye relief of the Zen Ray 7x43 ED3 binoculars as follows: First I attached a pair of winged eye shields, standard size, which I bought from Field Optics Research...

    Zen Ray 7x43 ED3

Frank, For the last few days I've been waiting for your impressions of your 7x43 ED3 production unit. I couldn't believe that neither you nor anyone else had any additional comments. Then this evening I realized there was a second page. My aging brain at work. They are amazing binoculars, and...

    7x43 ED3's - Have you pulled the trigger ?

Am I the only one who received the 7x43 ED3? It's been almost 3 weeks since I received my pair and I'm surprised that no one else has commented on theirs. I'd especially like to know if the excellent sweet spot on mine is typical, or if I just lucked out. Any comments?

    7x43 ED3's - Have you pulled the trigger ?

Center field sharpness didn't seem any different to me. But this is very subjective unless you use charts etc. which I didn't do. The depth of field is greater with the 7s but this is to be expected. Again the extreme eye relief of the 7s is a factor. With the 8s I just extend the eye cups all...

    7x43 ED3's - Have you pulled the trigger ?

Received the 8x43 ED3s and did a side by side comparison with my 7x43 ED3. The eye relief is definitely less with the 8x43s. (and better for non eyeglasses users). However overall I prefer the view with the 7x43s. sharper at the edges with less light fall off, and they just seemed to have an...

    7x43 ED3's - Have you pulled the trigger ?

Yes, that is what I've been doing with binoculars with long eye relief and you are right it does help. I just ordered a pair of 8x43 ED3 for no logical reason at all. I just want them.

    7x43 ED3's - Have you pulled the trigger ?

Well, maybe not 80%, this is very subjective. I'd be interested in the opinions of others

    7x43 ED3's - Have you pulled the trigger ?

I'm probably not the best judge of that because of my age. At 78 my eyes are not able to dilate as much as a younger persons'. But given this limitation they look fine indoors with limited light. I sold all my alpha binoculars a number of years ago, but doing a side by side comparison with my...

    7x43 ED3's - Have you pulled the trigger ?

To my eyes the sweet spot appears very wide. Maybe 80%. But the overall image is so excellent that you just see this nice clear view and are not distracted by any possible out of focus area--at least I'm not.

    7x43 ED3's - Have you pulled the trigger ?

I spoke to Charles before ordering these and he said the play in the focusing mechanism had been corrected in all models, and indeed there is no play at all in my pair. I could see no problems with them at all other than the eye relief.

    7x43 ED3's - Have you pulled the trigger ?

Received the 7x43s I received the 7x43 ED3s a couple of days ago. Didn't do any scientific testing but visually, backed with over 50 years of collecting binoculars, I thought the image was superb indoors and out in sunny and cloudy conditions. Great contrast, sharpness and brightness. One...

    Zeiss 8x56 or 10x56 FL?

If you do move to south Florida be sure to check out Wadadahatchee wetland in Delray Beach. Here is what someone else had to say about it in another message board: I did a quick before sundown walk around Wakadahatchee Wetlands in Delray Beach tonight. On the Eastern quarter of boardwalk looking...

    Zeiss 8x56 or 10x56 FL?

Hi, I've had a pair of Zeiss 8x56 Fl's for almost 2 months now (from Euro Optics, one of the few places that had them in stock at the time). I've always felt that the excessive purple fringing (which I am very sensitive to) of the previous 8x56 Victory model took away from their otherwise...

    ED FL shootout

Hi Rich, Keep in mind that you are comparing 10 power binoculars (Zeiss 10x42 FL) with 8.5 power binoculars (Swift 820 ED), which is not a fair comparison. Ten power binoculars, no matter how excellent, will have less depth of field and often less field of view than the lower power glasses. A...

Canon 10x42 L IS waterproof binoculars coming soon

Thank you Kimmo, I already sent the binoculars back. Even if this test showed good collimation, there was still a problem with the binoculars--not a very easy view, and areas of soft focus surrounded by sharp areas (astigmatism?). Your test for collimation will be used in the future. Incidently...

Canon 10x42 L IS waterproof binoculars coming soon

Many thanks. You are right of course. collimation being off even slightly would result in the eye strain I experienced. I guess I wanted to own these so badly that I forgot my basic binoculars 101. They are going back tomorrow.

Canon 10x42 L IS waterproof binoculars coming soon

I just received my Canon 10x42L IS binoculars today. I initially tried them out in my back yard where the distance was limited by trees to about 60 feet. The binoculars were generally exceptionally sharp with excellent contrast and brightness, but I did notice 2 problems. 1) Although the...

    Swarovski 10x42 EL Opinions please

I suggest you compare the 10x42 EL with the 10x50 SLC before you make a decision. In spite of the extra weight (and they ARE heavy) I prefer the 10x50's. I thought they were brighter and had an easier view than the EL's. In my opinion (and I'm sure others would disagree) they are optically the...

    Swaro 7 × 50 SLC

Fantastic binoculars, but make sure the serial number is higher than D6908xx as this is when the newer Swarobright coating was used--and it does make a difference. Also, be aware that the 7x50 SLC's close focus is 20 feet (for my eyes at least), which could be an issue for you.

Swarovski 8.5x42 El, Zeiss 8x42 FL & purple fringing

I'm keeping the Swarovski's After comparing both binoculars in varying conditions and places I decided to keep the Swarovski's and sell the FL's. Both are superb binoculars and the FL's do have less purple fringing, however with continuous use of the binoculars this was very seldom a factor...

Swarovski 8.5x42 El, Zeiss 8x42 FL & purple fringing

Yes, but sometimes what seems like a worthwhile trade-off at first becomes a major annoyance as you continue to use the binoculars under various conditions. The trade-off with the Swarovski 8x42's are the excellent depth of field and uniform image quality across the field, vs. the purple...

Swarovski 8.5x42 El, Zeiss 8x42 FL & purple fringing

Hi Chris, Some people never notice purple fringing, but it seems that once you discover it you always notice it--when present. I suspect that this is a trade-off with roof prism binoculars, and that its absence in the Zeiss fl's may be the exception to the rule.

Swarovski 8.5x42 El, Zeiss 8x42 FL & purple fringing

Hi, I would appreciate your opinions which will hopefully help me make a decision. I have a pair of Zeiss 8x42 FL's which I like a lot. I recently tried out 3 pair of Swarovski 8.5x42 EL's. Two of the older ones were not as bright as the Zeiss nor as contrasty. The third pair of EL's, (which is...

    Nikon binocular advice wanted?

Justin, Most of your questions have been answered so I'll just bring one more factor to your attention that you may want to consider. The Nikons are superb binoculars as are the Swarovski 8.5x42 (but sky high price), the Zeiss Victory FL and the Leica Ultravid. It would be very hard seeing much...

    Docter 8x42 and 10x42 for $399

Hi, I've always liked the SLC's, but without doing a side by side comparison it would be hard to say. Are you referring to the Zeiss 7x42 classics? Also very nice binoculars, but I no longer own a pair so I can't compare--Also the classics have an extremely wide view but many people think 7 is...
