    ID please

Thanks for your responses David and Geoff. One thing I failed to mention was that it could move very quickly. It rarely stayed still when I was trying to take the photographs, therefore I am pleased to hear that they are harmless, although somewhat fascinating to watch, being so small. Roger

    ID please

At first I thought I saw another small spider in the wash-hand basin, but after enticing it on to a piece of paper, on closer inspection it appeared to be a miniature scorpion - it was only about 1.5-2mm long. Any suggestions? Roger

    Wind turbines shredding Italy's raptors

If you had clicked on the link (recent report in Life in Italy.com) that is :-http://www.lifeinitaly.com/node/6774 it shows a somewhat different Italian local view. The inclusion of american raptor species in an american web-site article was probably just due to available pictures at the time...

    Camera advice. dilemma!

Firstly, what 'scope and eyepiece do you intend to use? I believe the general preference would be to use a compact camera, and some can be bought for less than £100 new. As an example of a compact camera used by a few Birdforum members, the Canon Powershot A590IS is listed on Pricerunner from...

    Has anyone been to Menorca...

Although these reports (links below) are not exactly relating to the period that you will be there, they give an idea of some good areas on the island to visit. My favourites are Algender Gorge at Cala Galdana and the area around the road leading to Tirant. The last time I was there this...

    Reed Bunting

In recent years, we have have had up to about 8 Reed Buntings visit our garden, but so far this year there have only been 3 or 4 at most. This is a picture from 23rd. March last year, when there was a sprinkling of snow. (South Lincolnshire village location - south facing small back garden next...

Is this free c.d. safe (from Digital Photo magazine)

If you are unduly worried David, with all due respect, just scan a suspect disk using your anti-virus software. Some magazine CD's/DVD's include a warning to say that although they are believed to be virus-free, they should still be checked before use. Many of the anti-virus software packages...

Post Office Broadband - Anyone got?

Stewart, Before considering Tiscali have a look at the many forums that report many instances of very bad customer service responses. Personally, the internet service has been mostly good, but I attempted to change my package to include a 'phone service in November 2006 and am still waiting...

    External hard drive?

Brian, what is the make and model of both your external hard drive and laptop? I have a Maxtor 160GB External drive that has built-in software, therefore when connected to my Compaq laptop (with Vista operating system) it is recognised instantly. Roger

Malta SOS Volunteer of the Year

I have just seen this thread (after the results show that Astrid Vella came fourth), and was somewhat bemused to notice that the link to the European Forum of Voluntary Work indicates that it is "Under the High Patronage of Mister Nicolas Sarkozy, President of France", taking into consideration...

Bad Rechargeable AA Batteries or Charger

Most Birdforum members are friendly and helpful, and with your apparent attitude you are likely to put off those that can help you solve your problem. My advice is to get the problem batteries checked for polarity before you advance any further; maybe you have a friend with a suitable meter. Roger

    Looking for Cookies folder

There is an alternative VB, have you considered using Piriform CCleaner, as this goes further by highlighting and then having a facility to remove much more than un-wanted cookies? I have included screenshots below, showing samples of the type of files that can be removed, plus the option of...

    LLAMAS Photographic Services

Did you also mean to say "Ain't Royal Mail wonderful?" I have used their "Recorded, Signed For" service(?) on a few occasions, and I am not impressed! Memory cards

Some time back, 7Dayshop.com delivery charges were very reasonable, and at times free. In recent times it increased to now being £3.95 per order, which seems quite high if the order value is low, but when buying a number of items at the generally low prices the overall cost can be very low and...

Fire brigade defends bird rescue (BBC News)

    Free Kaspersky Internet Security

After recently buying the Kaspersky Internet Security software (£15.94 incl. p & p from a well-known auction site), I have just logged onto Barclays Internet Banking, and there is a free offer of the same software now available. Red Dot Sights.

What I omitted to mention, was, that the resultant parallax angle (when a Red Dot Sight is mounted on Air Rifles/Guns) is very narrow compared to that when used with a Telescope/Camera combination, due to the Red Dot Sight line of sight position relative to the Air Rifle/gun bore. Roger
