Lagos, Portugal, Gull with grey legs

My first visit to Portugal for 5 years in September and noticed this large Gull with pinkish grey legs, more like a Herring Gull than the expected Yellow-legged Gull. There seemed to be a lot of these about in addition to the Yellow-legged variety which were also present. Is it perhaps a...

    Dark Griffon Vulture, DespeƱaperros, October

Saw this very dark Griffon Vulture over DespeƱaperros last October which looks almost like a Ruppell's Vulture. Just like some confirmation from the experts here. I'm wondering how far north the Ruppell's have been seen.

    Mystery birds Sagres, October

First one I think is a Whinchat but not certain. Second one is same spot a few seconds later, I thought the first bird flew as the second (upper left, a Stonechat when it settled) arrived, but the flying bird is suggestive of a Wheatear, possibly Black-eared? The Stonechat settled where the...

Vultures, Cabranosa, Portugal 23rd October 2017

A small crop from a corner of a Photo of one of the huge flocks of Griffon Vultures which flew over that morning. Amongst these flocks were a few Eagles, Buzzards and others and also at least 3 Ruppells Vultures. Is the bird on the lower left is a possible candidate for the latter? Still...

Raptors, Sagres area, Portugal today, 22nd October

A large flock of mainly Griffon Vultures covering a large arc of the horizon, just a few came close to the hilltop, including what I think are a Buzzard and Short-toed Eagle without bars on the tail (is it a young one?). The Griffon Vultures were over the main road from Sagres to V do Bisbo...

    Valencia Raptors today

Crossing Turia valley about 25 miles inland this morning. I'm thinking Montagu's Harrier for the first two pics and Sparrowhawk for the other two.

    Banded Black-tailed Godwit.

Photographed this at Moro Marsh, Valencia, Spain this afternoon. It has a blue ring and a pale green ring with a tag VJ5 on the left leg. How does one find where and when this was done. I assume its a passage migrant.

    Buzzard? Moro Marsh, Valencia, Spain.

Saw this climbing away in a thermal yesterday. Looks to me like a Buzzard with some hints of Long-legged like the plain pale tail and brown trousers of Long-legged but no apparent darkness of the carpals and perhaps the darkness of the wingtips deeper than expected. Could it perhaps be a hybrid...

    UK Minsmere Raptor

Found this amongst the Hobbies and Marsh Harriers I was photographing on 9th June over the reedbeds. No idea of size, thinking Goshawk or Sparrowhawk maybe.... This is one from a burst of 10 shots as it flew past at speed.

    Terns in Valencia, Spain, April

Seen at Moro Marsh on 6th April. Mostly Common Terns on this island with a handful of Sandwich Terns. Some of these have very dark bellies and bill shape more suggestive of Whiskered Terns, so are they? I have read that some 2nd-year Common Terns can have dark bellies and red bills...
