A bird I've only seen once. Nice.

    Proud Papa!

We don't see a lot of Trumpeter Swans in my area, and this is only the second time we know of that they've nested in MD. As luck would have it, they chose one of my secret(ish) spots, and I was the first to see and photograph them!

Am I correct in thinking all the tags are in place? The software seems to do this automatically.

    A Stretch in The Marsh.

I saw him fly, and I knew where he was going, and I got the timing right... I post a lot on Facebook, and Great Blue Herons outdraw just about anything else.

You're welcome. The Trumpeter Swan Society ID'd this bird as a juvenile who's been feeding in an iron-rich pond.

    Trumpeter Triumph!

This bird is one of two Trumpeter Swans I've been watching since they appeared about a month ago. They're rare here, and awesome in any case. They've been commuting between two local ponds, and the geography makes any flight shots difficult. So, I staked out the destination pond this morning...

    Red Shouldered Hawk 2021-6.jpg

I was observing a large flock of Sparrows, when some atavistic nudge told me to look up. I was able to remain quite close for several minutes. He was observing the sparrows as well.

The tag (Sci, Name) seems to be there even though I don't think I put it in.

    White Throated Sparrow 2021-10.jpg

White Throated Sparrows are a dime a dozen around here, but they're almost always on the ground. They're actually quite attractive in the right setting.

"... tapping at my chamber door."

There's a great park only a short distance from my home, but if you go, beware. A loud tapping sound indicates a Cardinal (Occasionally a Song Sparrow) has found your mirror.

    Dive, Dive, Dive!

Buffleheads are numerous this year in the Chesapeake Bay, and it's not hard to get close. This tail entering the water shot isn't uncommon, but I liked the colors and the water droplets.

    Visitors from the North.

It's an irruption year, and feeders throughout Maryland are seeing Pine Siskins often this season. This guy is at my local park.
  17. Julia Comes Home.

    Julia Comes Home.

"Julia" is a Tundra Swan banded (Collared) in Alaska in 2012. I first photographed her in 2012, and several times since then. The people around here often feed the swans, so I know where to look for her each year. We figure she's traveled over 100,000 miles. It's a treat to find her each year.

    Dragon (fly) Hunter!

I often see Tree Swallow nest boxes, but my favorite site has about 40, and most are used every year. I spend too much time very year trying to get the perfect shot.

    Lost, but Not Defeated

This Ring Necked Duck should be well away from here (Annapolis, MD), but he may be injured. He's eating well and swimming perfectly. He's been hanging out for a week or so.

    Tundra Tussle.

Many Tundra Swans spend the Winter here (Anapolis, MD) and the locals have been feeding them for years. One banded individual has been visiting for 12 years. They often flock to the feeding areas, and sometimes a bit of jostling occurs.

    "Drink Your Tea!"

I was chasing two Fox kits when I came across this slightly unusual visitor. The light was just right and the subject most cooperatie.
