    Glaucous or iceland gull??

I have photoshopped 3 of the photos, two of the photos do appear to show a pale eye. Despite being terribly over exposed on the of the photos does appear to show grey on the mantle, compare with Herring Gull in background. Both features would age the bird as 2nd winter. Bill pattern shown in the...

    Glaucous or iceland gull??

Photos are poor but i think a Glaucous x Herring hybrid is a real possibility. It appears to have a pale eye which would make it a second winter and the bill pattern doesnt appear to be typical for Glaucous off this age. I think Iceland Gull can be ruled out. Better photos needed for definate...

Bulwer's Petrels from land - Fuerteventura Jul 2013

Hi Marcus Interesting sightings and i think if you had a bit more height you would have seen more Bulwers! Ive seawatched from the lighthouse at El Cotillo and it is not elevated enough for seeing Petrels, so you done well seeing as many as you did. From experience in Maderia Bulwers dont come...

    Orchid The Burren

Thanks guys, i am certain its not a Marsh Orchid as this was on limestone with virtually no soil. I think its probably not O'Kellys either (plenty of which were in other areas of the Burren) I have come across a photo of a Spotted x Heath Spotted which is similar enough so it is likely a hybrid...

A couple of Gull ids please

Hi Alex / Steve very very difficult but i would go with 2ndw Iceland. In some photos it looks on the small size for Glaucous, round headed appearance and i would expect the bill base to be pinker on Glaucous. But better photos would be needed to be 100% certain d

    Kumlien's candidate in Oxon?

Hi Brian you cannot make a firm id of Kumliens based on these photos, you have to see the spread wing pattern. Dark eye is in favour of Kumliens but its not a 100% reliable feature. Hopefully someone will get a flight shot or wing stratch photo which will either confirm its a Kumliens or else...

    Glaucous or Iceland? Ottawa, Ontario

Bird on right looks like 1stw Glaucous Gull, check its large size with Black Backeds, Iceland would be a lot smaller / daintier. Adult Glaucous on the left and bird in flight could be either a 1st or 2ndw Glaucous, probably a 2ndw but you would need to see bill etc to be sure. derek

    Wader ID, Northumberland UK

Hi Steve i assumed maybe wrongly that the first 3 photos were of the same birds. There are clearly 2 Greenshank in the 3rd photo. If they are not the same birds then Redshank is the most likely solution for the near bird. Any photos on the net of the Pec at the site at the same time? d

Hi, im swimming against the tide a little bit here.Ive blown the pictures up a little and think that it is a Dunlin rather than a Pec. Also think the first 3 photos show the same 2 Greenshank. 1. Greenshank x 2 2. Greenshank x 2 3. Greenshank x 2 4. Dunlin 5. Dunlin+ Greenshanks x 2 6. Teal...
