    Nikon 8x30 E2 100th anniversary - improved coatings/mini review

I will go on using them as always and see if the amount of dust remains the same or if new is accumulated.

    Nikon 8x30 E2 100th anniversary - improved coatings/mini review

Maybe this is dust that has been in there from factory. I have also problem understanding how dust would enter from the objective side. But I thought that maybe it could suck in and be dust eveywhere that I simply dont see. Anyway, as said, Ibhave only once noticed a dust grain, which was big...

    Nikon 8x30 E2 100th anniversary - improved coatings/mini review

I have tried to add a photo showing the dust inside my E2. It is taken through the right objective lens, which is clean. The small white dust specs are evenly distributed all over what seems to be the next glass surface inside the tube just behind a grey colored ring...

    Nikon 8x30 E2 100th anniversary - improved coatings/mini review

Hello Downunder! I live in central Spain and for over half of the year we have a hot and dry climate, similar to parts of Australia I guess. I have a pair of E2 that I absolutely love. However, when I shine into them with a flashlight through the objective lenses I notice glass surfaces with...

Quality time with my EII 8x30s...

If they are sold as "new", as they told me in the shop, then they should have at least a year warranty (I think even 2 within EU). Considering the low price maybe the dents can be worth it as long as they dont affect the function. The simple construction of the Eii (e.g. no gas fill) make them...

Quality time with my EII 8x30s...

Hello Tringa45! I am very sorry to hear this! They appeared perfectly fine to me when I looked them over. I did not notice any problem when I looked through them either. I must have missed these damages. Sorry! How big were these dents? I wonder how I could have missed it. But I was on the way...

Quality time with my EII 8x30s...

FYI Given the great interest in the Eii, and often high prices, I may be helpful in the search in case someone (in Germany) is interested. I was in Bonn, Germany, last Tuesday (Sept 4). In the City Foto Center (unless I mess up the shops) they sell a pair of Nikon 8x30Eii for 299Euro. They have...

Observations inside two Abbe Koenig Zeiss models

Thank you Lee and all of you for the discussions! I feel relieved to know that the glue and the strange feature it has caused are not on a surface affecting the light path! The answer I got from Zeiss at that time did only increase my concerns as it was not explaining the observation. I wish...

Observations inside two Abbe Koenig Zeiss models

Of reasons given below I have not mentioned that I did send the Victory FL and photos of the problem to Zeiss in Wetzlar last year. I got the answer that what I see is a reflection of the light due to my strong light source, and that when not using the light the problem cannot be seen (see the...

Observations inside two Abbe Koenig Zeiss models

I am happy that so few so far have noticed the same things in their binoculars! Probably just me having bad luck. Just be sure to look for it as described in my first post. When shining the light in through the front lenses it cannot be seen. orm

Observations inside two Abbe Koenig Zeiss models

Good to hear this from you guys that know the constructions of these types of binoculars. I had been looking at various drawings of the interior of Victory FL and other A-K binoculars, but I could never figure out where in those drawings my observed feature was located. I was also worried that...

Observations inside two Abbe Koenig Zeiss models

Thank you Dipped! It would make sense that the glue is on some side of the prism that is not for the light path. But all the rest of the surface looks soo perfectly polished so I thought it was an active prism surface. Not sure if my other photos are to any more help. It is difficult to take...

Observations inside two Abbe Koenig Zeiss models

I have added more photos to the folder link given above. Some are marked FL and some Dialyt. As you can see the Dialyt is mainly just some cloudy spot whereas in the FL it is some kind of texture on the prism surface.

Observations inside two Abbe Koenig Zeiss models

Let's see it like this; 1) I had bought a cheap car and it had some bad paint job making the paint all bubbly on a fender. OK, I'd be a bit disappointed and drive on. 2) I had bought an expensive car and it had the same bad paint job... Some people would go through the ceiling. In my case I have...

Observations inside two Abbe Koenig Zeiss models

Quite happy. Possibly even happier if I knew the stuff on the prisms had no effect. [I repeat my hope that someone may know if such coverages of the prism surfaces have any effect] I think a 20% coverage of a prism surface with some stuff from a vaporizing glue is not really what I would expect...

Observations inside two Abbe Koenig Zeiss models

The photo is from my Victory FL, but something similar, but smaller, is visible also in the 7x42 Dialyt. I have not noticed that the image is affected, but any subtle differences may be hard to tell (How can I tell?). The damage, or whatever it is, is bigger in one tube than the other, but I...

I guess not even alphas are fully perfect. Well, maybe the new ones are.

Well. I hope maybe someone knows the answers to my questions. I am very curious what this thing is, if it is a common feature, and if it has any effect on the function. If it is standard procedure to mount the prisms with glue I wonder why chosing a glue that cause such fumes.

Observations inside two Abbe Koenig Zeiss models

Hello! I am the very happy owner of one pair of 10x42 Victory FL and one pair of 7x42 Dialyt T*P*. However, one day I decided to look down the tubes of my FL from the objective side. First I was shining a strong LED lamp in through the front lens, and it looked as nice and clean as one should...

Is it possible to fix the play in a focus wheel?

OK. Thanks! I will not try to change the grease. It sounds too difficult. I was hoping I could tighten some screw. I did fix a drifting diopter on my old Bushnell by using locktight (excuse spelling) on the screw. I was some time ago sending in a pair of Zeiss for repair. It cost me 70E...

Is it possible to fix the play in a focus wheel?

I have a couple of mm play in the focus wheel on my binos when turning it. Is there a common reason for play in focus wheels? Is it something that can be fixed by tightening some screw, or is it beyond home fixing? I notice no effect with temperature on the play. These binoculars are roof...

    night vision binoculars

A bit late but I'd like to correct that most NVs can be used in total darkness as they come with IR spot lights. If they do not, then they can be complemented by an IR spotlight or laser. IR spot lights are of less interest for military use as they can easily be detected, but for us civilian...
