    I think 1500 is an optimistic number, although you never know. In the time between leaving Peru and leaving the US to go to Europe, Noah saw 1281 new species in 95 days (in the following countries:EC, CO, PA, JM, CR, GT, MX and US).

    I think there are a lot of species in more then one region. As Noah noted every species in every country, and Arjan only notes new species. I think this overview is less accurate than a comparison of unique species per continent/country.

    White-edged tail bird ID

    Maybe Nutcracker? Hello, Maybe a wild guess, but what about a Nutcracker. It came up my mind because of the description "white-edge fan-shaped tail". greetings Eric
