Lady Amherst's Pheasant in Bedfordshire still?

Any dipper sightings Somerset U.K. ?

I'm glad I stumbled across this thread as I'm on holiday in Dyrham & just went for a walk along the River Boyd at Wick at Golden Valley LNR & found an immature Dipper 200m upstream of the A420 roadbridge. Thanks :)

    Fish

It does look very similar to a Mullet to me as an ex-angler. Mullet are fish of the sea and their preferred habitat is estuaries, harbours, rocky points, they will venture far upstream and are able to cope with the freshwater stretches of a river. Quite how it, or they, got into a pond is most...

    Norfolk birding

The paddock is easy to find. Just follow the main path from the entrance to the arboretum which will curve gently around the perimeter then head slightly downhill, across a footbridge over the small stream, and the paddocks will be ahead of you on the right. Best bet would be to continue on for...

    Norfolk birding

Hi Jonno, I would expect to see Rock Pipits at most places along the coast in winter. The rocks along Sheringham seafront should produce without too much effort with the added bonus of Turnstones and hopefully Purple Sandpiper anytime soon, otherwise the boatyard at Morston or the harbour at...

    Sei whale Scotland

More often than not, it is in the open sea off Kinghorn, whether or not it's healthy I don't know although it seems to be doing OK, (caveat, I haven't been but have followed the messages on Messenger & FB).

It's always been Stubb Mill at Horsey for me, park in NWT Car Park and walk east 3/4 mile to viewpoint however, it is a well known winter site at dusk, I haven't tried in the autumn but it should give you as good a chance as any. Failing that, they are occasionally put out by the bird news...

    Norfolk mammals

Hi Richard, would you be able to give a pin drop or coordinates for this please. Is it the wide strip of grass at the end of the runway on the east side of the A140 where there's always rabbits? Next time I'm up that way I wouldn't mind doing a stakeout. Thanks, Paul

Are Stone Curlew still at Weeting

I would guess that they won't be there & won't be open. Definitely best to call them Call the centre: 01842 827615 https://www.norfolkwildlifetrust.org.uk/wildlife-in-norfolk/nature-reserves/reserves/weeting-heath

There is only one anal fin on most fish including Zander and to me it looks to be in the right place. Must admit I was at a loss until I saw the 3rd photo and you can just about make out the slight stripe effect that some Zander show. For me it is a Zander but also willing to accept that we may...

    Courtyard Farm, Ringstead

Hi everyone, I spend a lot of time birding around Norfolk and I get the annual Bird Report too. I'm wondering if anyone can give me more specific directions on whereabouts to go in the area of Courtyard Farm/Ringstead to see farmland birds such as Tree Sparrows, Grey Partridge, and Corn Buntings...

    Beluga

The same question has been asked on Twitter today and it seems that there have been no sightings from birdwatchers/wildlife watchers since October despite people looking. The continued existence of the Beluga in the Thames seem to emanate second hand from the Port of London. Also you've posted...

    Norfolk Butterflies and Moths

Nice photos Dave! I went there a few weeks ago & was disappointed to find all the buddleia in the car park to be dead, dying, parched and brown. Clearly from your photos there are other stands of flowering buddleia in the park which the butterflies are favouring this year. Cheers, Paul

I read them John, but I think BF is dying a slow, lingering death as more & more people move over to other forms of social media such as Twitter for their news.

    Norfolk birding

I visited Stubbs Mill roost last Wednesday at dusk. I saw around 20 Marsh Harriers, 4 Common Cranes which flew through quite low when it was getting quite dark, 3 Chinese Water Deer, a large bat, thousands of Thrushes (Redwings & Song Thrush), and thousands of Pinkfeet. Sadly no Barn Owl. All...
