    Swallows can be seen pretty much anywhere including the coast, maybe they were feeding on minerals or water from the cliff face, they probably were not nesting there Mark

    If you want good close views, I know there is an evening boat trip from Martins Haven, you can get tickets from Lockley Lodge visitor center in Pembrokeshire, which goes around skomer Island where they breed, although I have not done the trip myself

    How to distinguish common and thrush nightingale calls?

    In simple words If you were judging them side by side is 8 out of 10 for Thrush Nightingale , 10 out of 10 for Common Nightingale !!, very difficult to explain in words other than go out and listen to them.
