Sony RX10 1V the new boy.

I bought the RX10 IV a couple of weeks ago because, due to health problems I am having to think twice before going for a good nature ramble with my gripped d500 and 200-500vr. The RX10 iv (compared to a dslr and long lens) is rather liberating! The 600mm end gives enough reach for close quarter...

    AF-S Nikkor 200-500mm f5.6E ED VR

At one time I owned both the nikon ad-s 300f4/tc14ii and the sigma 150-600c. Then I got hold of the nikon 200-500vr and sold the other two with no regrets though I may get the 300mm pf to use with the tc14 for butterflys and dragonflys later in the year.

Review by 'evan47' on item '150-600 mm F5-6.3 Contemporary'

at its current lower uk asking price (if you look around) this lens is a bargain for birding on a budget. quite sharp through its range, gets a little better when stopped down a little. results can be inconsistent so take a few shots of your subject for insurance. this lens needs good light ut...

    New Sigma 150/600 contemporary

it is the af-s version. it is as sharp as the vr version. i also use it with the nikon tc14ii teleconverter.

    New Sigma 150/600 contemporary

i am thinking of getting the sigma c 150-600 as an alternatve to my nikon 300f4 af-s and tc14ii converter on my d7100. at the moment i can get rather good results by cropping to 600mm equivalent focal length with the nikon lens and tc but i was wondering if there would be any real advantage...

    nikon 300f4 af-s + tc14ii vs sigma 150-600 c.

i am thinking of getting myself the sigma 150-600 c lens for birding purposes in the near future. i currently use the nikon 300f4 af-s and tc14ii with the nikon d7100/d7000. is it really worth me upgrading for the extra focal length or should i simply stay as i am and crop images with the nikon...

    300f4 af-s

the nikon 300f4 af-s paired with the nikon tc14ii has been my main lens for close quarter birds and butterfly/dragonfly photography for the last two years. i use it with either my d7100 or d7000 and have been extremely satisfied with its results. sharpness is great even with the tc14ii and it...

    Review by 'evan47' on item '135-400mm F4.5 - 5.6 APO DG'

terrible zoom creep. if it creeps with af engaged you cannot simply zoom the lens back to 135mm with one turn as it will stop unless you fiddle with the focus, rather frustrating. poor iq at 400mm.

Review by 'evan47' on item 'AF-S VR 70-300/4.5-5.6G'

i have used this lens for about 3 years. light, compact, sharp through its range, but at its best stopped down to f8-f11 in good light at the long end. vr is effective, af reasonably quick.

    Should I buy a D7000

d7000 the d7000 is a pretty good choice as a main/back-up body. low light performance is rather good. image quality is good and sharp but it is essential to adjust its picture control and af settings from the out of the box defaults. in the right hands it will beat the d300/d700 in image...

Review by 'evan47' on item 'APO MACRO 150mm F2.8 EX DG HSM'

pin sharp, works well with the sigma 1.4tc. balances well on its mono/tripod collar. great for butterflies and dragonflies. i also have the 60mm and 105mm micro nikkors and this is as sharp as either. as with all macro lenses you have to learn proper technique to get the best results.

    nikon dslr and starter digiscope

i am thinking considering starting digiscoping. i use the nikon d7000 and am looking for a scope and adapter that wont break the bank. (i will consider used gear). recently i tried the canon sx50 with 1200mm focal length and even that did not have enough reach. i see nikon have some reasonably...

    Lumix FZ200 or Canon SX50 or ...

hmmm, i think i will retract my earlier post on the sx50. further testing reveals shutter lag, poor evf, poor screen, overcrowded control cluster, premature low battery warning, lots of ca and fringing on high contrast edges. on top of this it started to have focus issues (the evf and screen are...

    Lumix FZ200 or Canon SX50 or ...

i bought the sx50 hs as an alternative to a budget long zoom. although i have only given it a quick try out in poor conditions it seems to have great potential. focus is reasonably quick, nice and sharp too. image stabiliser is very good and low light performance is ok. it will be a handy...

    canon sx50 hs

great, thank you. i think it will be good enough as long as i dont crop too much. like i said, i will use it for the times i need longer reach. i can try it for 14 days so if it disappoints, i can return it and get a second d7000 body. it does look good enough though. looking forward to this!

    canon sx50 hs

good morning, i am a keen hobbyist photographer and am looking for other peoples bird pics taken with the sx50 hs. (i am thinking of getting one for when i run out of reach with my d7000+70-300 combo). it seems ideal for what i want but i would like to see what other people have taken with it...
