    Which Snipe - Okinawa, Japan

Hi MacNara, Thanks for your reply. The overall feel of the snipes (there were at least 5 together in the rice paddy) was they were not Common. They seemed to big and beak too long for that. My friend's Merlin app says Latham's as most probable on the one pic, and Swinhoe's on another. I am no...

    Which Snipe - Okinawa, Japan

Hi, What kind of snipe is this? I have it down as Latham's but could it be Pin-tailed? Both would be uncommon for summer in Okinawa I think. Regards, Ger

    Hokkaido in May

Hi Alex, Thanks for your quick reply. The cruising looks good, although I am not sure if there would be much overlap with Teuri Island. Given the location, I guess renting a car might not be a bad idea. It would make Nemuro and Rausu much more feasible it seems. Would harlequin duck and brown...

    Hokkaido in May

Hi all, I am planning a trip to Hokkaido in May next year. I realize it is during Golden Week, but it can't be helped. Idea is to spend 10 days or so. Ideas so far: Kushiro for cranes, Rausu for Blakiston fish-owl and Teuri Island for auks etc. Would I be missing important birding spots? And...

Thanks! Somehow I didn't expect them to flock together in a tree, so completely overlooked the wagtails.

    Puffins in early May?

Well, back from Iceland for a week already. The whaletrip was a good choice, there were loads of puffins at sea. As were fulmars and a few black guillemots. On the whole, it was a successful trip. I saw 51 bird species of which 12 were lifers. Also very pleased with the spotted redshank. Thys

    Puffins in early May?

Hi, Early next month, I am going to Iceland for a week. Although not really a birding trip, I will of course try to see as many birds as possible. The idea is to drive to Myvatn and have 1-2 days to do Husavik and Myvatn surroundings. After that back to the south (Golden Circle). We might...
