Win Opticron Binoculars answer two questions!

    A. Clifton Cameras UK B. Competetive prices on top line optics, they often have special deals which are good value, very reliable, knowledgeable, freindly and courteous when dealing with telephone enquiries. I find the layout of their website very user freindly. UK based reputable dealer.

    Hi all! I´m new here

Hi Binastro, Yes, I started work in London in the 1960s, and earned only about £6 a week, but I think in those days "the men" earned a lot more than the boys, or it seemed that way. I had a job loading the photo, had to re-size it.

    Hi all! I´m new here

Binastro is right, the BLC (Zeiss ) 8x60 is a very rare and sought after binocular these days This photo is from the 1950s Catologue of JA Davis & son who used to be in Demark Hill London SE5, I think they closed in the 1970s, so I expect Binastro might have known of them, you can see the BLC...

    First binoculars choice

Hello there, The Jenoptem is a decent binocular to use, I used one during the 1980s quite happily, but not now really a competitor for more modern binoculars for serious use. If you can afford it, I would buy the best, even if its a used one, like the Zeiss 8x32 Victory, Swarovski 8x WB...

Zeiss Jenoptem 8x30W real or fake ?

The box and case look genuine DDR items, but the binocular only has a six digit number, and all the hallmarks of being made in Japan. It does not look right, that does not neccesarily mean its fake as I understand Zeiss Jenna did licence some Jenoptems to be made in Japan, and they had some...

    Optolyth TBS 100 APO/HDF

Hi David, Many thanks, thats great news, I look forward to trying my Baader on my Optolyth scope. Thank you very much for taking the trouble to test it, I am grateful. Ben

    Swift 8.5x44mm BWCF Audubon

Hi Binastro, I sold my HR5 some time ago, I regret it now, it was mint, but I never used it, I always went for the slightly older HR Audubon. Should have kept it, as they say "it wasnt eating anything" . I understand about being careful of the good stuff, I tend to be a bit like that, an old...

    Swift 8.5x44mm BWCF Audubon

Thanks Ed / Arthur, I love those old swifts, although for some reason I find the image in my HR Gold band Audubon more pleasing than the HR5, but I cant put my finger on why.. Binastro, how do you find the Nikon E11 ? I think it is the best 8x30 porro I have, including my Swaro Habicht, and...

Opinion & Value of B&L Rochester Zephyr 7x35s?

That is a superb, pristine example, what did you decide to do ? If you have not sold them, I would say keep them, you wont see another like this. I am a collector, and I missed out on buying a used B&L Zephyr last year, it was boxed, with everything, but not quite as good as your one as the...

    Optolyth TBS 100 APO/HDF

Thanks David Thank you David, this sounds promising, I have ordered 2 Baader hyperion zoom mark IV as I spotted two for sale at a very good price. If it does not work out with the scope, I will anyway use them in my 100mm semi APO binocular although they only have a focal length of 460mm so...

    Optolyth TBS 100 APO/HDF

Hi Ron, I didnt mean remove the glass permanently, but looking at it, I think it would have to come out to get the big retaining ring out, in the TBS 100 it looks like the round glass is fitted/threaded into the bottom of the of the big ring with a smaller retaining ring, it is differrent to my...

    Optolyth TBS 100 APO/HDF

I have had a good look at the big retaining ring, it is only a fraction too tight for a 1.25" EP. It looks easily removable along with the small glass lens at the bottom, I know some one who could take 0.5mm off the inside diameter of the ring with a lathe to allow an astro EP to fit, but the...

    Optolyth TBS 100 APO/HDF

Hi Ron, The zoom is a newer one, 30x-60x -- x100, its better than the old 22-60x I had on my old TBG80, but I still find it not a great zoom, and as David pointed out, narrow FOV. One of the reasons I sold the old one was it wouldn't take a decent zoom, I thought all the later models would, and...

    Optolyth TBS 100 APO/HDF

Ah, thanks David, it's the older one, the number is 123303, and I can see the ring you mention. Ok, will forget about the Baader and try fixed EPs. So the Astro adapter is actually no good for this scope, probably the reason for sale. Many thanks.

    Optolyth TBS 100 APO/HDF

    |:d||:d|Thank you David, I have read good things about the Baader, think the Baader Zoom will focus and work in my Optolyth 100 APO/HDF, using the adapter, I dont know how old it is, but think its not that old, I think they may possibly be still selling the same model new. Photo attached. It is...

    Large Aperture

Second Binastro on 45 degree or 90 degree angled eyepieces. I find straight through EPs on a tripod at elevation very uncomfortable, I think likely to be more so at your 6ft plus height. Something to consider. Good luck.

    Optolyth TBS 100 APO/HDF

Well I bought the Optolyth TBS 100 APO/HDF, pre-owned, but mint, together with a stay on cover, 30-60x 100 EP, and a 1.25" adapter all for £499, i'm clued up on binoculars, but not too familiar with used scope prices but it seemed an ok price? I had an old TBG 80 awhile back and sold it, someone...

    Looking for 8X30/32

Think I agree with this, I have the ZEISS FL, its a great binocular, but have tried out the Swaro SV 8X32 and felt it was very slightly better than my Zeiss, as I already have the Zeiss there is not enough in it to make me change, i'm quite happy with my FL, but if nitpickingly honest I did...

    Optolyth TBS 100 APO/HDF

Thanks John, I find it strange that Optolyth dont give the focal length on their website ad for these scopes, (unless i'm missing something, which is very possible) most others have the FL listed in the specification. Ben

    No more tiny 8X20!!

I had most of the 8x20s, Zeiss, Leica, Nikon HG, finding eye placement difficult with all of them except the Nikon HG, but I have found the only compact to give me an excellent image, comfortable eye placement and decent FOV is the Swarovski CL Pocket 8x25, although it is a little heavier than...

    Fujinon Techno-Stabi 14x40

Thats a good price for one of those Binastro, cant go wrong really, thanks for the review, like you I have always wanted to try a Fuji IS but put off by the price.

    Optolyth TBS 100 APO/HDF

Hi Dipped, Many thanks for that and the link. Optolyth list the scope length at 400mm, but oddly they dont give the focal length. In the pt-ducks test they state scope length 495mm including the zoom eyepiece , the zoom eyepiece they used looks around 9mm long in the picture so that sounds about...

Hi all, Can anyone tell me the focal length of the TBS 100 ? I did a search but can only find info on the TBS 80. With thanks, Ben

    Informations wanted: Glory Katsuma binos

Hi Jan, I'm not sure I trust the sales sticker on the box fully, but yes, probably still a bargain. It is not far behind my Fuji 6x30 optically. I'm surprised they didnt pursue the roof Ednar, it looks a well built binocular. Ben

    Informations wanted: Glory Katsuma binos

Hi Jan, So, the roof you have must be very rare? Interesting about current selling, I have an EDNAR 6X30 IF military type, green rubber armour, it,s mint condition, binocular, rain guards, straps and case all unused boxed, but I did not pay much for it as I remember, around £40 I think...
