    Canon 40D shutter failures?

Hi, I've been offered a Canon 40D at a very fair price with just 1300 actuations. I'm interested in general use, not birding photography. I've read inumerable posts on the internet about early shutter failures with this model. Should this problem put me off a purchase? Kind Regards Dave

    Leica 16-48 eyepiece

Can anyone explain the difference between the Mark 1 and Mark 2 version. I think it was something to do with fitting a locking nut because the eyepiece began to untighten from the body as the zoom was used. If so, was this a real problem? Also, anyone got one for sale? Thanks Dave

How many activations is a Nikon 80 capable of?

I have been looking at a Nikon D80 second hand, 8 months old. Excellent condition but the owner reckons it has done over 20k's worth of activations. What is a typical life span figure for shutter activations? Any help/advice much appreciated. Cheers Dave

    Problem with ED50 tripod mount?

Faulty build with ED50 tripod mount? Hi, Just about to purchase an ED50 but notice two members (Dogfish and PDuxon) have reported the need for repairs to the tripod mount. Have any other users had this problem yet? If so, was it with an angled or straight version - just wondered if certain...

Shoulder Pod - easier with angled or straight?

I'm thinking about getting a Nikon ED 50 to use with a Nikon 20X eyepiece (with the ED50) I already have. I plan to use a Culmann Shoulder Pod and a Manfrotto Monopod with it. Can anybody who uses either of these devices (with the Nikon or any other scope) say whether they work better with an...

    Swaro 8 x 32 ELS - now improved?

Swaro 8x32 ELS improved? I tested some brand new 8 x 32 ELs today in very dull and overcast conditions. To my eyes, these bins have definitely been upgraded. The focus seemed identical to the latest 8.5 ELs whereas the early models had a noticeable internal 'spring moving' noise. Also, I'm sure...

The eye relief debate: interesting data

In the light of the ongoing debate about optimum eye-relief, this Dutch website has interesting test data which suggests that useable eye-relief figures are actually much less than manufacturers claim. For example 15mm for Swaro 8.5, 13 mm for 8x 42 Ultravid, 14 mm for Zeiss 8 x 32. Also, there...

Important info if you are about to purchase quality bins

Swaro UK have confirmed that the ELs focus mechanism has been updated. For many of us, this was the only flaw in these otherwise superb binos. For further info check out the thread in the Swaro section of this Forum.

Swaro 8.5 ELs now with improved focus?

Just been looking through some brand new 8.5 x 42 ELs. I think Swaro have finally addressed that slow focus issue because they seemed very much better than some I sold a few months back. Still not completely smooth as in Nikon HGs but now only 1.25 full turns from closest focus to infinity and...
