    Raptor ID (Britain)

I'm not seeing anything other than Common Buzzard here either. The neck craning is in response to the mobbing corvid so, nothing to go on. As Butty says, the broad head is more typical of Common. As has already been said, video would have clinched it. RB

    Leica APO-Televid 82 + 25-50X WW

Hi Louise, You might try posting to the 'Classifieds' forum here on BF including as much information as possible plus photos showing condition of the items, particularly of lenses. A price will also be required so have a think about what you want for them based on age, usage and condition. Use...

First Tajikistan (eBird) record of Common Shelduck?

Not much doubt really, a nice find! The characteristic piebald pattern and bowed wings are pretty much unmistakable. RB

Better understanding the Leica range for a second-hand purchase

I tested it extensively against the equivalent Swarovski model of the time (2004) and I preferred the Leica by some margin but of course, YMMV. RB

Better understanding the Leica range for a second-hand purchase

Hi Hermann, Just to throw a spanner in the works, I've have used an APO 62 with both the zoom and the 32x WW (26x on 62 Televid) since 2004. I have no desire to change it for another scope as I have not yet seen anything better that satisfies my needs. It is excellent with both the zoom and WW...

Better understanding the Leica range for a second-hand purchase

What Daniel said! If you can find a good example, the APO 77 will satisfy but is a little heavy to lug around. Also be aware that some of these scopes had problems with flaking coatings on the objective which I understand didn't affect the APO 62. Other potential problems are the lack of...

    German Accipiter Identification

Are these meant to be the same bird in each image or are we looking at different individuals? The protruding head and large bill of the second bird suggests Goshawk. RB

    Black-headed Gull

Details of the vocalisations would have been useful from the start! RB

    Black-headed Gull

Definitely not a BHG; looks like a Med Gull to me? RB

As Butty says, its a Greenshank. No need for 'overthinking!' RB

    Accipiter , Belgium

This is by far the easiest plumage to ID Gos in so, not quite yet Ken 😉 ! RB

    Harrier species

Agree, if its a harrier its probably a Marsh Harrier but shots really not good enough to expect anything from. RB
  17. R

    Accipiter , Belgium

Nice one Ken, we're getting there! Look at the size of the bill too. RB

    Gull ID, Southend-on-sea

Upperwing pattern far more distinctive/diagnostic than head markings, certainly in this shot! RB
  19. R

    Merlin? Tehran. IR

100% Kestrel for me. ‘Jizz’, build, proportions (especially tail length), lack of coarse patterning on flank and patterned rather than plain wing coverts support this ID. RB

Bird feather identification please from Yorkshire , England

IMHO its impossible to say with any certainty. Under what circumstances and in what type of habitat were they found? They could equally well have come from a domestic duck or chicken! RB

    Straightforward drake Pochard, sorry. RB

    Too windy for scope?

Agree, don't leave it unattended in windy conditions. The bigger the scope the more risk of this happening! RB

    Swarovski prices going up 7%?

Despite being a long-standing Swarovski user and advocate, I couldn't bring myself to replace my 'original' (2004) 8x32ELs with any of the newer models at current - and future - prices, even as a retirement 'treat', which I had considered. The whole birding optics market has gone mad. If I did...

    Stability in wind

I find that a bucket of water helps to 'dampen' vibrations 😉😂! Just saying ... the pedant in me came to the fore, sorry. RB
