    Swarovski habicht 10x40 W (2002 Model)

I know that around 2011/12 the coatings of the Habicht models got a major update but don't know if there were any more improvements later done.

The new Kowa TSN-883 has arrived (for my review)

A dual focus design costs the manufacturer more - so kudos to KOWA. Personally I also prefer this solution.

EDG 7/8/10 x42 still in production?

Also the GPO (German Precision Optics) Passion 8x56 and 10x56 do use Abbe-Koenig prisms. Both are real bargains IMHO with independent lab measured transmissions of up to 93 percent (at 550nm).

    More to Close-Focus

Not to forget that people criticize companies who decide to decrease close focus capability of certain popular models. And that although the new focussing wheel is more precise than before. Personally I would call this step a wise decision. But I'm already a pretty old guy too. ;-)

Historical Review of Swift 804 Audubon Binoculars

After reading these interesting 16 pages about the Swift Audubon 804 binoculars I just would like to say a a big THANK YOU to all people involved in, especially to Bill Cook (I enjoyed both your books), Ed Huff and Renze de Vries. BTW does any updated more complete version exist of these PDFs...

GPO Passion ED vs Vanguard Endeavor EDIV

The Passion ED has transmissions of >90% at 550nm (independent lab measured by Dr. Gijs van Ginkel - please check houseofoutdoor). The 8x50 and 10x50 ED even should exceed 92% cause of their Abbe prisms. In this regard it's hard to beat GPO in this price range.

    New Leica September 4 2017

I've used the old Trinovid 7x35 for more than 15 years in the field (including Africa and South-America) and never ever had any problems too. Will I gonna buy a new one? Sure. My old Trinovid got stolen and I miss iit ever since. Thank you Leica for bringing it back.

    Binocular id

I know that there also was a Hertel & Reuss Jagdglas 15x56 in this series but I can't date these too, sorry. Probably Dr. Hans T. Seeger from Hamburg could tell you more - he's an expert regarding vintage German binoculars and wrote several books.

    Zeiss-ness: 60 hours with the Oberkochen 8x30

He was the mastermind but he had a small team who helped him developing these famous binoculars, e.g. people like Helmut Knutti (he developed the wide angle eye piece of the B models). Other names were not mentioned because of political or personal reasons - it was a very difficult time those...

    Zeiss-ness: 60 hours with the Oberkochen 8x30

I have a Zeiss Oberkochen 8x30 (150m/1000m) which was produced in 1970 (SN 794xxx) and has been serviced only once seven years ago. It's still my favorite bin of all time, because nothing matches the mechanical precision and quality of this cute piece. Sure the transmission is weak compared with...

Nikon's 100th Anniversary binoculars officially announced

The Swarovski Habicht 8x30 is significantly brighter and also a bit sharper than the Nikon 8x30 EII. The focussing wheel on the Habicht is a little bit too stiff for my taste, but that's the price one have to pay cause of the waterproofness. BUT the Nikon only costs 2/3 or sometimes even 1/2 of...

    Habicht: 8x30 or 10x40?

NOW I know what confused you. Your serial number is A800289991 simply split in two lines. This model was manufactured in the second week of 2010.

    Habicht: 8x30 or 10x40?

@Rathaus I have not seen a double different serial number yet, so I don't have a clue what that means. But I will ask someone who should know. In the past the the Axxxxyyyyy number was the relevant one. A Dutch member in a forum unveiled this information a few years ago. The information...

    Habicht: 8x30 or 10x40?

@Hermann Just take care that your Habicht model of choice was manufactured 2011 or later. That was the last time they updated the coatings on these models. It's pretty easy to identify by the serial number eg. A8107xxxxx where 81=2011 (82=2012, and so on) - 07 is the production week.

    Kowa Demos at Eagle Optics

There is no difference. Perhaps in some countries "Genesis" is a registered trademark and so they don't use it. I have a Kowa Genesis 44 10.5x44 Prominar XD for a couple of years now and I think they are still unbeaten in their price class - especially for birding (outstanding contrast, high...
