    Ruppell's Warbler in Crete

Does anyone have any information about specific places where Ruppell's Warbler breeds on Crete. I have read a very general 'south coast' and descriptions of the kinds of habitats it prefers, but I will have fairly limited time in April and would really like to add this bird to my Life List...

    Long-tailed Duck on the Danube

Pleased to end the year with a new species for my life list!! I went out to an area on the left bank of the Danube in northern Budapest this morning, as the nice www.birding.hu website has said that there were several Long-tailed Ducks (Clangula hyemalis) to be seen. It was an immaculate day...

    Immature Gull on the Danube

I was out birding (to see Long-tailed Duck, actually) on the Danube in northern Budapest this afternoon, and saw this Gull amongst the many Black-headed and few Common Gulls. I take it to be a 2nd Winter bird - either Caspian Gull (Larus cachinans) or Yellow-legged Gull (L. michahelis). Can...

    Geometer for ID

Please can you help with the Geometer below. It seems very close to one of the Agriopis species from the shape and markings, but not quite right for either A. aurantiara or A. marginaria. Caught in the living room the other night, done for by a Wolf Spider, I think. Best David

    New Insect for Me!

Dear All I would be grateful for any assistance with the ID of this rather strange looking insect which flew in tonight. It's head is rather like a Snake Fly, while its body is closer to the crickets and mantises...... It's an intriguing and interesting creature, and I can find no help in...

Dear Batters I live in Budapest, and we have Serotine Bats in the street, which typically hunt just below my 3rd floor flat up and down the street. Last night, in the flat directly opposite, 3 Serotines got in and flew around inside, then left after attempts by the owners to get them out...

    Budapest moths for ID

Nice things flying in with the heatwave!! I wonder if you can help with these three: 1) partly mangled (!) what I take to be an Aglossa sp ? 2) an Yponomeuta sp, I suppose? (or Myelois ....doesn't seem to have enough spots on the trailing edge, nor the 'upturned' wing-end) 3) Confirmation...

    Goshawks in Cities

I have always associated Goshawks with undisturbed woodlands away from humans. Thus on a working trip to Riga, Latvia last week, I was very surprised to first see one take a town pigeon (then be mobbed a Hoodie), and later see a pair circling a church tower, and later even get some poor quality...
