Young red-backed shrike or smth more exotic, Estonia?

Thx guys. Adult female explains the red brown upperparts. I got somehow fixed on it being a juvenile and that's why it didn't quite fit.

    Nocmig bird calls from Estonia

Hi guys, So I made my first nocturnal recording last night, scanned through it, managed to pick out among dogs barking, people yelling and cars passing 5 tree pipits flying over, resident blackbirds, robins and hooded crows calling just before sunrise. But I also encountered all sorts of calls...

Hi guys, Found 2 larks today and made this recording. ID-d them as Crested Larks in the field but now having some doubts as I can't find a matching Crested Lark call from xeno-canto.

    Few ID-s from Estonia

Hi all, Have recently started to take nature walks with my 4 year old daughter and caught some insects and dragonflies on pics instead of birds. I am quite clueless in this category so any help with id-s is appreciated. Pic 2 i Id-d myself as Four-spotted Chaser, is it correct? Pic 3 is...

Moth and a butterfly from Estonia

Hi all, I just started to look at butterflies and seems I also caught one moth on a picture. Help with id-ing is appreciated. My guess is pic 1 is either Common or Amanda's Blue. With the moth I have no idea.

    Dunlin? in Estonia

Picked out this wader with dunlins on 25th of May in Estonia. It stood out because instead of the black belly it had only a few black spots on breast, much grayer colour of upperparts and looked a bit bigger than other dunlins. Bill is exactly like a dunlin. I guess it is a dunlin that is just...

    Gull from Estonia

Digiscoped some pictures of a gull that looked more white-headed than surrounding herring gulls. But my gull id skills are seriously lacking so posting the pics here.

    Wheatear from Estonia

This bird caught my attention because of the brownish underpart colouration. Managed a few shots before it took off. No pics of a spread tail unfortunately, which would nail the id. Just a female Northern Wheatear in autumn plumage? Or smth else?

    Pallid or Montagu's Harrier? (Estonia)

Thanks guys for the input. As I was afraid the plumage details needed for id are not showing on the pics. Going to log it as harrier sp. Pallid Harrier sightings are on the rise in Estonia as well. In one of the raptor watching points last spring 6 to 10 in favor of Montagus. This year 5...

    Pallid or Montagu's Harrier? (Estonia)

Pictures taken yesterday at Põõsaspea cape in Estonia. Bird came in from the sea and shot past me along the cape. I noticed a strong clear collar when it flew towards me and grabbed for my camera. Unfortunately everything happened so quickly that the only shots I managed to take are from behind...

    Weird raptor from Estonia

The sign was measured. It is 70 cm in height and 80 cm across.

    Weird raptor from Estonia

I will request that the finder goes and measures the sign.

    Weird raptor from Estonia

Thank you for the id-s. What is weird is that the photographer swears it was a very small raptor so it is not an optical illusion of the photos. Can there be dwarf CB-s?
  24. K

    Weird raptor from Estonia

This raptor was photographed in Estonia today. Very small sized, the roadsign should be about 60 cm in height. So Merlin size but with Common Buzzard look to it. Any ideas?

Mid- to late June: where to go?

June is still good for some eastern specialities in Estonia. Greenish Warbler, Citrine Wagtail, Booted Warbler, Blyth's Reed Warbler, Great Snipe etc. Corncrakes, Rosefinches and Thrush Nightingales singing everywhere. The weather is not too hot but warmer than in Northern Finland. Lots of...
