    Have We Got Eagles

Every winter large numbers of eagles, group around Onondaga Lake in Syracuse, New York. It is the only stretch of water that does not completely freeze over during the winter. It's not uncommon to seen twenty or more at a time, in the surrounding trees and fishing in the small stretch of water...

    ISO Priority Mode

I shoot a lot of wildlife photos. Nothing is more frustrating shooting a great shot and finding the image quality is poor for cropping because the ISO chosen by the camera is to high or the shutter speed was to low to freeze the image. Even when I fence the ISO in auto mode to say a max value of...

Perhaps in a future camera, Canon could be the first incorporate it into a standard camera setting, similar to Av, Tv, P, M, etc.

Hi, Something to share. I'm testing out an idea I have on how the below option might help out beginners, like myself, to take better photos with the Canon SX50. Currently testing this out under the Tv mode but it also applies to the Av setting. In Tv, I set the shutter speed on a high value...

    It Never Gets Old

I've only been going to Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge near Syracuse New York, over the last two months or so. When I saw my first Bald Eagle, I was so thrilled. Last week I saw seven immature Bald Eagles and two adults. It never gets old!

I cropped and tried to correct this over exposed photo of a Marsh hawk. It came out pretty stunning, given the colors lost and sharpness on maximum.

    Love That Look

Saw this adult Bald Eagle this morning at the first bend along the drive trail at Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge. I hear that a large number (hundreds) can be seen at the Onondaga Lake inlet, once the lake is frozen over during the winter. I will have to check that out and report what I find.

The Closeest I've Been to a Bald Eagle

Driving through Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge today and came across this young Bald Eagle just sitting there on a small mound off the side of the road. Took a number of photos as did other drivers who pulled off as well. This was the closest I've ever been to a Bald Eagle. Goes to show...

Eagles Are Just Fun to Photo

Took my first photo ever of a Bald Eagle, just a month or so ago. They are so fun to photograph, especially when they are active. The Canon SX50 can really reach out and take that far away shot.
  25. Birds in Flight

    Birds in Flight

Always a challenge to catch a snapshot of ducks in flight. I set my Canon SX50 on maximum optical zoom, and then use the focus assist button to locate birds in flight. By releasing the focus assist button and quickly snapping the shot, as long as the shutter speed is fast enough, I'm able to...
