    Piping Guan, Pantanal, Brazil

Hi I'm rather confused with this Piping Guan. The dewlap is mainly red, however there is some blue on the throat. Is it a Red-throated Piping Guan (Pipile cujubi), a Blue-throated (Pipile cumanensis) which is what the guide told us, or is it a intermediate form between the two? The picture was...

    Unknown, Ilha Grande, Brasil

I've seen this bird in october on Ilha Grande in Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil. The bird was on a big dead tree, inside the forest, together with a Picazuro Pigeon (the bigger bird on one of the pictures). It was an overcast, grey day, so the picture is not the best. Can anyone help? André

Birdforum.net not opening in new Firefox version and in Chrome

Just updated Firefox and now I can't open birdforum anymore. I always get the error message "content-encoding error". So I tried the same in Google Chrome and I get the same problem ("content decoding failed"). Still works in Safari however. Anyone having the same problems? Rather annoying. André

    Wintibird's World List 2017

Well, a new attempt to break my own record which stands at 1'102 (2015). Shouldn't be too difficult as I will travel to Ecuador and to Uganda this year. The lists starts (as usual) in India... Lifers in bold, taxonomy follows IOC. I had birded the last few days in the Mishmi Hills, a wonderful...

    Wren-Babbler India

This Wren-Babbler was seen last December at Sattal, Uttarakhand, Northern India. I did hear the bird calling but somehow the pic and the sound don't really fit together. Any opinions or clear id features just from this (not so good) picture? André

    Tern, Cuba

On the 3rd of March we saw a Tern on Embalsa Nina Bonita, close to Havana, Cuba. The bird was pretty far but I managed to do some (rather bad) phonescoping. It had the size of a Common/Arctic/Forster's Tern. Am I correct with Common Tern on this one? Thanks for correction/confirmation. André

    Minivet, Thailand January 2014

The attached Minivets were seen at Kaeng Krachan NP in Thailand in January 2014. I put them down as Ashy Minivet then, but now revising my pictures I have some doubts. Are they Swinhoe's? Any help appreciated. André

    EuroBirdPortal online

The EuroBirdPortal is now online. It's aim is to bring together the data of all European online bird databases (like ornitho.de). Pipit, Southern India, January 15

This pipit was seen near Masinagudi, close to Mudumalai National Park in Tamil Nadu, Southern India in January. The dark lores and rather plain upperparts make it a Tawny Pipit for me. However, as Mudumalai is obviously the southernmost place for this species in India, I would like to have...

    Wintibird's International List 2015

After my big year in 2014 (see here: http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=275144) this year will be a bit more relaxed. I started the year in India, another trip to India is planned in April/May (the northeast) and hopefully a trip to Namibia in summer. Like last year the taxonomy follows...

    Helmetcrests for the Opus (Colombia)

    1000 in a year

Yep, that's the big goal this year. I nearly made it in 2012 (I would with heard only included) but this year it should be possible. Some trips out of Switzerland will help greatly, on the map are Thailand, Ghana, Scotland, Bosnia, Sulawesi and India. 1. January - Chennai, India 1: Rose-ringed...

    Wintibird's 2013 list

After almost a thousand birds in 2011, the number in 2012 was much lower. This year, with trips to Sri Lanka and Australia, around 600 should be possible. Will see.... Lifers in bold. 1. January - Kitulgala, Sri Lanka 1. Sri Lanka Junglefowl 2. Indian Pond Heron 3. Cattle Egret 4. Little Egret...

    Asian Brown or Brown-streaked Flycatchers

I am updating the Opus with the split of Brown-streaked Flycatcher from Asian Brown Flycatcher (which also gets a new scientific name). I sorted out most of the pictures (or trusted the photographers), but I have 5 left. Any thoughts? Brown-streaked (Muscicapa williamsoni) or Asian Brown...

    Sri Lanka early January 2013

After having visited South India several times I would like to go to Sri Lanka. I'm already in contact with some local companies. The plan would be to do a 10day tour to see all endemic birds, some of the wintering guests (like Pied Thrush or Kashmir Flycatcher) and with some luck Leopard...

    Arctic or Pomarine Skua, Switzerland

This bird is marked as Arctic Skua: http://www.ornitho.ch/index.php?m_id=54&id=4758285 I'm rather sceptical but not really well experienced with Skuas. Isn't it a Pomarine? André
