    A Panama sketchbook

Amazing. I don't just love it for the amazing drawings (which they are), but also for the hand writing and the colour of the paper and pencil, it looks like the sketchbook of a Victorian Naturalist. Just so pleasing to look at in every way.

    Yorkshire Birding

Sorry, I think I've f*cked up on this one, I didn't appreciate birds were breeding and really just wanted confirmation of what I'd heard. Given the amount of press coverage on the internet I didn't realise that location would be such a huge issue. I guess whoever sent the report to birdguides...

Thanks for your concern. I was initially wary of publicisng this record, and I did not mention the location in my first post (or note the record in the log book), but subsequent research on the internet showed that crake in this area were well-known and publicised, including on the JNCC website...

Saw nowt of the Crane when I had a look in this morning, may've been a flyover maybe? I don't get full subscription of birdguides, but I popped in at Wheldrake on a whim anyway. It was at North Duffield this morning where I had my corn crake actually, so the journey was worth it. Just been...

Corncrake In Yorkshire I found something interesting this morning; heard a bird calling with a repetitive krrr-krrr call out in a grassy field (i've got a fuller description in my notebook if needs be) . I've checked out some recordings and it seems spot-on for corncrake. As a strictly...

    Yorkshire Birding

Yesterday walked between Draughton and Ilkley, via Middle Hare Head, Bolton Abbey, and Beamsley Beacon. Good day really, lots of birds about including hundreds of curlew, red grouse, meadow pipits everywhere, stonechat, snipe, common sand on the river, red kites and buzzard. Sadly no ring ousel...

I had a quick look for it yesterday, but with little info on it I didn't find owt. I didn't try right down that west end though. It was still there apparently.

So strange, and yet I can make it out perfectly. Really, really cool effects.

Interesting set of photos, thanks for posting. Really hope they find out a little more about the long term effects of this- I expect nature can overcome this sort of thing, but any ill-effects that could come about may take a while to manifest unfortunately.

I know the habitat doesn't look right, but this brown blob really looks like a Tawny Owl.

    One for coffee time again

I get the feeling this guy likes painting water! And why not, he's great at it. Really love these paintings. A lot of them remind me of some of this forum's contributers though! The caspian terns with the shimmery summer sea behind look just perfect.

Love the Skuas, just amazing, the close-up make me realise how loose painting can be detailed at the same time. Not put any money on yet, will probably just have a couple of quid on the gold cup on friday. I think you got a couple there, how'd it go overall?

I don't think it is necessary to all the way down the peninsula, most birds can be seen from the top. There's a bench where, if you have a scope, you can have views of the vast majority of the birds on the mud. You can park at the Canal Scrape hide park (it may be a good idea to print off the...

Often I take a trip to Spurn around early march to get views of the geese as well as all the waders that can be seen. It's worth noting that the spring tide that occurs around this time will usually render the Spurn road undriveable, you'll have to park at the top and walk all the way down. That...

Can't wait to see the arctics finished. The eiders round the boat are really great. I found myself a couple of Eiders bobbing about Flamborough Head last weekend ( the first wild'ns i've seen in a couple of years) and they were just as pretty as all you brilliant paintings show them to be...
