  1. Corvus cornix

    Bartley reservoir

The "Beast of Bartley" was still doing its thing this morning, on Day 15 and counting. Who knows how much longer it'll stay? Single Stonechat on the fence line, staying well down in the brambles, out of the wind. Cheers, Matt
  2. Corvus cornix

    Sandwell Valley

Yes, we'll probably be starting feeding again some time in November. Not sure it will be quite as successful as last winter as the maize is in another field this year. Fingers crossed we'll still attract good numbers and maybe something nice! I'm sure Dave will put a message out on here and...

Is the stuff on this pigeon's beak a growth?

Hi, I'm certainly no expert, but I think the large wattles around the eyes and the beak are just characteristics of the breed and are harmless to the bird. If you can find a local pigeon breeder, they can probably advise you better. Independent pet shops are usually a good source of advice and...

  9. Corvus cornix

    Scottish Wanderings

I've never witnessed it either, but seems to be a well-known phenomenon. https://www.jstor.org/stable/4600934?seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents Would be interesting to see it actually happening. Nice one! Cheers, Matt

Lug style connectors for EL FP Bins

When I was researching before buying mine (8x32 EL FP), there seemed to be some mentions of the lugs being included so you'd have the choice of which strap type to use. However, mine didn't come with the traditional-type lugs and most people I've seen appear to have the field-pro straps. Don't...

Lug style connectors for EL FP Bins

I bought my EL's last year from Focus Optics. They stocked the lugs for the traditional style straps, I'd give them a try. www.focusopticsltd.co.uk Cheers Matt

  13. Corvus cornix

    South Birmingham misc sightings

It's using the house with the feeder in the front garden (and surrounding trees / rooftops / gardens) at the north (Muntz Park) end of the road. Still there today, as per Twitter, usually a few other birders around. Cheers, Matt
  14. Corvus cornix

    Sandwell Valley

There's a metal field gate adjacent to the pet cemetary section, opposite the derelict farm buildings. Either park in the small car park at the Crem and turn left down the lane for or park in the large car park at Forge Mill Lake (Pay and Display, 40p per hour upto £2 all day), turn right and...

    Edgbaston Reservoir

1w Caspian Gull on the ice in the centre of the res early yesterday afternoon. Possibly the bird from Sandwell Valley that seems to have moved off. Went back to the car to get my 'scope for a better view, but couldn't relocate it. Cheers Matt
  16. Corvus cornix

    Stock Dove, West Midlands

Likewise, they're getting more common in parks and even in gardens in my part of the West Midlands. I see them regularly around Warley Woods, Dartmouth Park in West Bromwich and Edgbaston Reservoir as well as large numbers in Sandwell Valley. Cheers, Matt

  20. Corvus cornix

    Sandwell Valley

I think this message has turned up in the wrong thread. Could one of the Mods move it to one where there's more likely to be a positive ID? P.S., I think I'd agree with Dave that it's likely to be a gamebird. Cheers
