Well done - I still can't see it in the first one!

Legendary bird finds and finders ...

It's early days but I dare say the guy who stayed in Whitburn Obs after the Fea's Petrel went past and then found a second one is heading for legendary status. Especially after finding the Bridled Tern on its way past earlier in the year!

Oh dear - that's a shame it was such a good story! I only heard that third hand, so glad someone could put me right. And yes I was referring to Lance with the Blyth's

Legendary bird finds and finders ...

Jane, yours reminds me that a recent Broad-billed Sandpiper on Teeside was called (tentatively I think but very impressive nontheless) within a flying flock of small waders. - a well known one is Ted Parker III finding an undescribed species calling in the background of someone else's sound...

Legendary bird finds and finders ...

Many birders have found rare birds, but which are the greatest feats of bird-finding? I don't mean firsts for Britain (or anywhere else), I mean finds which demonstrate great skill in the field. I love to hear these stories and there must be many out there. Here are some examples which...

Has digital photography changed how we see birds?

Spotted Crakes were being re-identified as Soras on Scilly before the digital age, so it's not a new thing.

    Durham Birding

Hi Neil, Thanks for flagging up this problem. I have added a test sighting and that also failed to appear. I will get on the case. I would be very happy for anyone else who identifies new problems with the website to send me a PM and then we don't fill up the Durham Birding thread with website...

    Is this spotted flycather? Pakistan

I don't Know the range either so I could be way off. And my memories of both species are fairly distant. I do seem to remember Siberian having this cute facial expssion like a ruby-crowned kinglet. I am sure someone like Rockfowl can come and sort it out for good!

    ID please UK, Fylde coast.

It's a Sanderling in breeding plumage.

    Is this spotted flycather? Pakistan

With such a tiny bill and the dark streaking on the underparts isn't this more like Siberian Flycatcher?

    UK Bird ID required

It's a female blackcap with the shadow of a fern on its head giving a funny pattern of dark stripes.

Thanks guys - I'll pass that on to the museum, if they are interested.

Unidentified skins - from South America?

I visited the Brooklyn Children's Museum and saw these unidentified skins. I wonder if anyone can identify them. I'm guessing that the back one is a south american tanager but I have no idea about the other. Also, I have no idea why my photos are upside down (an iphone issue perhaps),

    Climate Change Denial

That's not how I read MJB's post. I think he said that they are largely safe to birds unless they are poorly sited.

    Climate Change Denial

Far too many mentions of one particular blog on this thread. Try reading this one instead: http://www.realclimate.org/ There are plenty of dissenting voices in the comments and lots of intelligent discussion and argument. Lots and lots of good (ie. published and peer-reviewed) background...
