Olympus 300 f4 IS PRO tripod mount.

New to Olympus lenses so would appreciate any help in securely attaching a QR plate to the mount. Not happy to rely on the Arca-type grooves on the mount as there is no obvious means of retaining the lens should the associated clamp slacken, the clamp screw can only be thumb-tight and must...

    SRB Photographic adaptor, Nikon fit.

I already have a Kowa 883 body plus TE11-WZ 25-60 zoom, I also have a Nikon D3300 body. Both items perform to my satisfaction independently and I'm now wondering if linking them with an SRB adaptor would be a worthwhile exercise. To date, I've jury-rigged the D3300 body to the 'scope and the...

Moult scoring - Ginn and Melville

My 1983 copy of the book details the complete moult score process on page 28 but I suggest it would be sensible to contact the BTO direct to check their statement.

    Response time, Norway Ringing Scheme.

Just tried out the online colour-ring recording website as suggested by Nils Lorentzen. Full ringing details and history instantly made available for a Black-headed Gull seen on 29 January. Sorted my lack of patience issues, hope Jos Stratford can do the same with Amazon.

    Response time, Norway Ringing Scheme.

Just received this information from Nils Helge Lorentzen (via a colleague who also was waiting to hear from Norway). Hopefully, future delay problems solved. " I’d also like to invite you to try out our online recording of colour ring sightings at www.ringmerking.no/cr . You’ll need to register...

    Response time, Norway Ringing Scheme.

Many thanks for passing on your experience of reporting Norwegian-ringed birds. Not sure I'm entirely in sympathy with the volunteers with no paid support reasoning for the erratic response times. With over 35 years experience of voluntarily undertaking colour-ringing projects in the UK, I am...

    Response time, Norway Ringing Scheme.

My past submissions of Norwegian-ringed gulls have usually received a response within 48 hrs but I have yet to hear anything regarding a Great Black-backed Gull submitted on 18th January. Has anyone else had the same experience recently?

Should IS be switched on when mounted on a tripod

I use the 7D MkII body but have not tried video with or with out a tripod. Maybe it's worth mentioning that I use either a fluid or a gimbal head so a 'lock down' head situation is not relevant to my findings. As you and others say, don't slavishly follow the findings of others.

Should IS be switched on when mounted on a tripod

The 100-400 MkII user manual I have states the following - "using a tripod also stabilizes the image. However, depending upon the kind of tripod and shooting conditions, it may be better to turn off the Image Stabilizer function." For what it's worth, I've noticed no appreciable difference with...

Can the TZ80 (FS60) auto zoom on power on?

Good advice - if at first you don't succeed, read the instructions though not always easy to find the topic you are looking for. Eventually I found it was possible to set 'zoom resume' on the FZ1000, why do so few user manuals have an index?

Anyone using a D3300 for bird photos?

I have used the D3300 body with a Nikkor 70-300 zoom as a 'walk around' outfit. IQ equal to that of results obtained with D7100 and D7200 bodies with the same lens but I found the poorly illuminated shooting information in the viewfinder annoying, particularly in strong light.

    Norfolk birding

A 19th century French philosopher is attributed with making the statement "in a democracy, we get the government we deserve." Perhaps we should now extend this statement to include the conservation charities.

    New Nikon 300mm f/4 VR

Presumably no one was able to offer any advice on this matter so I took a calculated risk and ordered the product with the following result:- 1. notified by 1000hrs on the next working day after placing the order that the order had been dispatched via Royal Mail standard delivery as...

    New Nikon 300mm f/4 VR

No doubt this is a small, fairly light lens but I find I need to use a monopod at times. Mounting direct to the body results in the obvious imbalance therefore a mount ring (not supplied as standard) is required. I note UK Highland Photography with an address in the UK - Woking Surrey, sell an...

    Nikon D7100 or 7200?

Many thanks for your helpful advice. From your comments, it does seem worth fully exploring the D7100's performance before going for a different body. As stated in my original post, not yet had chance to really tryout the lens but the results so far have been encouraging bearing in mind the...

    Nikon D7100 or 7200?

Thanks for your prompt response, as I shoot in jpeg hopefully there won't be too much of a problem with a smaller buffer.

    Nikon D7100 or 7200?

Just acquired a Sigma 50-500 f/4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM lens and am wondering if anyone is willing to share their experience of using either of these bodies with this lens for bird photography. My thanks in anticipation.
