    New Eyepiece

I prefer the eyecup design of the BSTs to the X-cel LX. Optically they're pretty similar and in my opinion both just as good as the ES68 range, which is waterproof and has a slightly wider field but suffers from more pincushion distortion as a result. If you observe whilst wearing glasses the...

Pentax pf65ed- couple of eyepiece questions...

The Regal M2 comes to focus (in the angled version at least) and the quality is decent enough although astro use shows up some weaknesses if I remember correctly. Of the Opticstar zooms the larger is likely the same as the WO so anything you read about one probably applies to the other...

Field of view in different scopes

It depends on the eyepieces. When you look into an eyepiece you see a circle of light with black outside of it. The width of this circle is the apparent field of view (measured in degrees). This will vary from eyepiece to eyepiece depending on the design. You can approximate the true field of...

Scientific Explorer 26mm 62 Degree Eyepiece Meets A Pentax PF65 -EDAII Spotter

I think he means the BST Starguider/Explorer which are sold in the US as Orion Epic II ED, Astrotech Paradigm, and Agena Astro Starguider. I've used the 5, 8 and 12mm and would say that they are just as good as the more expensive Explore Scientific 68 degree eyepieces but not as good as the...

Scientific Explorer 26mm 62 Degree Eyepiece Meets A Pentax PF65 -EDAII Spotter

I found the eye relief on the ES68/24mm to be too long compared to the height of the eyecup leading to a need to "hover" over the eyepiece. It also had quite a bit of pin cushion distortion. How does this new ES62/26mm compare on those fronts?

8x32s: Hawke Endurance HD vs Kenko Ultraview EX OP DH II

Unfortunately, I didn't see there was a reply this morning and went to look at the models I could try locally. I ended up leaving with a Hawke Frontier instead of the Endurance I originally was looking at.

8x32s: Hawke Endurance HD vs Kenko Ultraview EX OP DH II

Can it really be that given the huge following for the Sightron on these boards there is no one who has also used the Hawke and can advise either way?

8x32s: Hawke Endurance HD vs Kenko Ultraview EX OP DH II

Thanks Bob. I have actually already seen both of those reviews and noticed that the first one is for the DH rather than the DH II. I am assuming from the reports on the DH II / Sightron Bluesky II that the newer model is a significant improvement.

8x32s: Hawke Endurance HD vs Kenko Ultraview EX OP DH II

I'm considering buying an 8x32 binocular. The models I'm currently looking at are the Hawke Endurance ED and the Kenko Ultraview EX OP DH II (effectively the same as the Sightron Blue Sky II). Both are approximately the same cost but my local dealer doesn't stock the Kenko so I can't just go and...

    Decent budget scope

Yes, this is what I was after, but only really so that I can use the same eyepieces in both scopes. If however, there is some reason why I would be better off not getting a scope that takes 1.25" eyepieces then it's not a deal breaker. Is it fair to say a 65mm ED scope will perform better than...

    Decent budget scope

Hello everyone. :) Several years ago I picked up picked up a Meade 20-60x60 spotting scope and it has served me quite well however I feel that the image could be brighter, the image is soft over 45x and as with all zooms the apparent field of view is narrow at the low end. The last two issues...
