Pentax PF80 looooong distance recomendations
Well, light loss is noticeable, but I'm still surprised that it works! When the zoom is at 8mm with the powermate it gives around 161x, and you can see eye-floaters, but it's not a surprise since the exit pupil in that case is less than 0.5mm. As it can be read in Televue's eye piece... -

Pentax PF80 looooong distance recomendations
In case it helps anyone, I've tested the Powermate 2.5x with the PF80ED-A and it works just fine! The chrome barrel doesn't go all the way in, but still I'm able to reach focus in all focal lengths using the Powermate with the smc PENTAX Zoom XL 8-24mm. -

Ok great! Thanks Joachim for all the info! In regards to 1.25 eyepiece compatibility with the PF80ED-A, any special considerations? Any way to know (e.g. by looking at dimensions, etc) if a given eyepiece will work (reach focus) with this spotting scope without having to try it first? Thanks! -

Thanks David! I read the Test of 2.5x magnifiers section. One question. The 2.5x Powermate worked in your Pentax without any type of modification? That is, are there any tweaks (like the ones mentioned in other threads for barlows) required to make it work? -

So, with the XW 3.5 and 5mm the viewing conditions considerations also apply during the night? I mean, are these eyepieces usable for planetary viewing with the PF80ED-A at 104x and 148x for objects high in the sky (not near the horizon), or night conditions also have to be perfect to take... -

Thanks Bill! So in the Pentax 8-24 in-between magnifications are available? Or you have to rotate the knob until reaching the marks and only those focal lengths / magnifications have an effect on the view? Sorry again for the newbie question. I'm just trying to picture how zoom eyepieces... -
