    Pentax PF80 looooong distance recomendations

Well, light loss is noticeable, but I'm still surprised that it works! When the zoom is at 8mm with the powermate it gives around 161x, and you can see eye-floaters, but it's not a surprise since the exit pupil in that case is less than 0.5mm. As it can be read in Televue's eye piece...

    Pentax PF80 looooong distance recomendations

In case it helps anyone, I've tested the Powermate 2.5x with the PF80ED-A and it works just fine! The chrome barrel doesn't go all the way in, but still I'm able to reach focus in all focal lengths using the Powermate with the smc PENTAX Zoom XL 8-24mm.

    32mm Plossl for PF80ED-A

Ok great! Thanks Joachim for all the info! In regards to 1.25 eyepiece compatibility with the PF80ED-A, any special considerations? Any way to know (e.g. by looking at dimensions, etc) if a given eyepiece will work (reach focus) with this spotting scope without having to try it first? Thanks!

    32mm Plossl for PF80ED-A

Thanks Joachim! I forgot to mention another motivation. Besides using the PF80ED-A for daytime observations I also use it for astronomy. The other night I was trying to find Mars, Saturn, and an open cluster in Scorpios, and it was really hard to do with the 21x and 1.8º RFOV provided by the...

    32mm Plossl for PF80ED-A

Hey! To explain my motivation, I currently own the Celestron SkyMaster 8x56 binoculars and the PF80ED-A. I was thinking it would be nice to have the following magnifications: 8x (binocular) 16x (PF80ED-A with 32mm Plossl) 21x-63x (PF80ED-A with SMC zoom). So far I'm looking into the following...

    Barlow the PF80ED?

Thanks David! One more question. How is the powermate attached to the scope? Via the locking ring of the scope, or is that only meant for eyepieces from Pentax?

    XW 3.5/5mm eyepieces with PF80ED-A?

Great! Thanks David for sharing your experience...

    Barlow the PF80ED?

Thanks David! I read the Test of 2.5x magnifiers section. One question. The 2.5x Powermate worked in your Pentax without any type of modification? That is, are there any tweaks (like the ones mentioned in other threads for barlows) required to make it work?

    Barlow the PF80ED?

Any results here? Can someone confirm if the TV powermate works with the PF80ED-A? The link provided (http://pt-ducks.naturlink.pt) no longer works. Thanks!

    XW 3.5/5mm eyepieces with PF80ED-A?

Oh I could have figured that out easily by multiplying 120 x 5. Anyway, thanks!

    XW 3.5/5mm eyepieces with PF80ED-A?

Thanks Bill! Really clear answer! Thanks Joachim! What's the focal length of your scope, so that I can more or less compare the magnifications you provided taking into account the PF80ED-A's focal length (518mm).

    Pentax PF80 looooong distance recomendations

Does it work in the PF80ED-A without any of the tweaks required for other barlows, or are those tweaks always necessary? Thanks! Pedro

A barlow that works with Pentax scopes

I'm really late to the party, but I was wondering if anyone else has been successful using a Teleuve 2.5x Powermate with the PF80ED-A? Does it work without any of the tweaks required for other barlows, or are those tweaks always necessary? Thanks! Pedro

    XW 3.5/5mm eyepieces with PF80ED-A?

So, with the XW 3.5 and 5mm the viewing conditions considerations also apply during the night? I mean, are these eyepieces usable for planetary viewing with the PF80ED-A at 104x and 148x for objects high in the sky (not near the horizon), or night conditions also have to be perfect to take...

    PF80ED-A focal length

Great thanks Bill! So the scope's objective length is not even specified in the user's manual? That's strange... Thanks for clarifying the differences in magnification for objects at infinity vs close ones.

    smc PENTAX Zoom XL 8-24mm

Thanks Bill! So in the Pentax 8-24 in-between magnifications are available? Or you have to rotate the knob until reaching the marks and only those focal lengths / magnifications have an effect on the view? Sorry again for the newbie question. I'm just trying to picture how zoom eyepieces...

    Celestron Regal Premium Tripod

Hey! This tripod has good reviews in Amazon, even from people using it with spotting scopes (http://www.amazon.com/Celestron-8205...+rigal+premium). Currently I own Celestron's basic photographic tripod which works fine with a pair of 8x56 binoculars, but I'm afraid that this tripod would not...

    XW 3.5/5mm eyepieces with PF80ED-A?

Hey! Does anyone has experience with these eyepieces in this scope? I can't find information about them in the official webpage (http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/products/binoculars/scope/xw/index.html), which might be an indication that these eyepieces are not intended to be used in...

    smc PENTAX Zoom XL 8-24mm

Hey! I'm curious to understand how this zoom eyepiece works. I've seen other ones that have click-stops. This one seems to be continuous, is that correct? If so, the fact of it being continuous means you have access to all focal lengths in the range, or the only focal lengths available are...

    PF80ED-A focal length

Hey! What’s the real focal length of this scope? In some places I see that’s 518mm, in others 520mm and in others 522mm. What’s more, the magnifications specified in Ricoh’s XW eyepieces webpage http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/products/binoculars/scope/xw/index.html) don't help clarify...
