    Spotting Scope Advice

This is a lovely idea of yours. I see only one potential problem: You will have to pay hundreds if not thousands of dollars to implement this idea, and if your father doesn't know what's in store for him, it is possible that your gift only gathers dust in your father's attic. Also, I'm not...

    New Leica September 4 2017

Something remotely like that. There's an investor called "Blackstone Group" currently holding 45% of Leica's stock, and they want out. This can have a variety of reasons, and per se it is no sure indication (let alone proof) that Leica is in trouble. The last company figures that I heard...

    Kowa TSN-883 performance

Thank you, Henry. The above picture is a composite from four areas of the same photo. In each area the colors are shifted in different directions. Or rather, Blue seems to be shifted towards the center of the image, causing color fringes as a result. Is this what you'd expect from poor...

Opticron Now Available To Buy In Germany

Hello Mr Gamby, I'm afraid I don't understand your reply with respect to my question. I asked whether Amazon has been selling these items without authorization, and their customers bought items without warranty. Maybe they can supply anything, but apparently they don't want to. Case in...

Opticron Now Available To Buy In Germany

I'm not sure what to make of the thread's title, "Opticron Now Available To Buy In Germany". Opticron has been available for years on amazon.de. Does that mean that Amazon has been selling these items without authorization, and their customers bought items without warranty?

    Kowa TSN-883 performance

Hello Michael, thank you. I guess this explains at least the CA part of that experiment. Seeing that the 20mm Panasonic Pancake scores quite favorably on dxomark, it's probably a good option.

    Kowa TSN-883 performance

Hi, some time ago, I tried a Kowa 883 with a TE-11WZ eyepiece, and a Sony Nex 7 attached via PA7 adapter. The results did not impress me, reasoning that even an imperfect focus or camera shake could not have caused these chromatic aberrations. Still I am not sure what one can reasonably...

    Kowa 88mm vs 77mm

Thank you! This is impressive indeed. Congrats :) You might want to verify that your new Kowa performs on a similar level, before your return window closes.

Hello Joachim. Can you tell why that is?

non-perfect Monovid: What would you do?

Hello Binastro, you may be correct with all of this, and yet I think that Joachim's reasoning is infallible: Even if the defect is "allowable" and "not very important", it will cause a significantly lower resale value of the item.

non-perfect Monovid: What would you do?

Hello Joachim, thank you so much for your reply. Sometimes I'm unsure whether I'm overly pedeantic. However, the diminished resale value seems like a very valid consideration to me, and I didn't think of that. I'm still solidly inside the return window (Widerrufsfrist), and not yet sure...

non-perfect Monovid: What would you do?

Hello all, I very recently bought a Leica Monovid 8x20, and noticed what seems like a small coating defect inside the device. The pictures below were taken through the front lens. Would you be bothered by that, or would you ignore it, because it probably doesn't affect the optical performance?

    Kowa's new 50 mm scope

Incidentally I just found out that there's a Borg 55FL lens assembly that uses a 55mm Fluorite lens from Canon, probably the same lens used by Kowa. Which is probably mildly interesting because Borg offers a complete spotter with these optics for much less than Kowa's asking price. Or you...
