The Gambia - guides & prices

Hello - just got back and had a great time. We did some half days in the coastal region (leaving Kotu @06;30 returning about 14:00hrs) which we negotiated to £35 per person for two people with a guide + driver. (Plus we gave the driver a 200 Dalasi tip). We took a guide from the Kotu...

    raptor & ? shrike???? nepal

oK - thanks - I'd not considered juveniles....duh.... might this be instead a juvenile long tailed shrike - they are super common in that area (I saw loads) whereas eBird suggests bay-backed is a rarity there? Or have I stumbled across a rarity? (Or ebird wrong?) thanks again!

    Binoculars for Trekking in Himalayas

UPDATE - trip happened this year, delayed by the pandemic. Anyway, simple answer to my original question (relating to the weight of full size binoculars causing neck strain) = a harness worked fine, rucksac straps didn't interfere, and I used a peak designs capture clip to carry the...

Birdwatching in Finland - Rovaniemi area

Have a look at eBird - check the hotspots in the area(s) you are interested in E.g. https://ebird.org/hotspot/L12591730 Also eBird can show you records in the region and you can then find where the birds you are interested in were last seen. This approach works best if you check regularly over...

    Audio Recorder Recommendations?

I have the Tasman DR05x and am happy with it. Sometimes I use it with a microphone sometimes on its own. Relatively cheap so happy to leave it unattended.

Hello, I have one spare day at the end of May in Ahrus at the end of a business trip. Please could someone advise me of any good birding sites in the vicinity. Ideally accessible by public transport as I would prefer not to hire a car. Ideally with a different mix to what I usually see in...

Kathmandu, Nepal - info please for a few spare days in October

Hi @Andy Adcock - our trek is all sorted out re guides/porters etc - there’s a group of us going to the Annapurna region and there won‘t be much time for birding unfortunately so I’m hoping to get a bit of focused birding in Kathmandu before/after the trip. So it’s just some single day trips...

    sound recording problem noctmig

I don't know -- I might ask Rode -- because maybe the TRRS is already supplying power to the microphone -- and if so then there is no problem. Powerbank for recorder works very well indeed.

    sound recording problem noctmig

Thanks — having done some more investigation it seems like the noise/interference issue relates to the USB connection between the power bank and the recorder. I tried all configuration of internal/external batteries. The recorder is fine with the USB power, just that the microphone isn’t...

    sound recording problem noctmig

Edit: by process of elimination I think I have found the source of the problem which is the external power supply to the microphone is adding the interference and causing the problem. So......how do I externally power my microphone without this??? thanks...
