    white spots on prism

    I have a bin "on trail" from Amazon, but I noticed it has some small white spots on the prism (on the objective side of the prism). Optical quality does not seem to suffer, but still I assume this to be a "significant" defect, or am I nitpicking here...? Edit: just had another look with...

    Binocular length

    I am trying to figure out what the advantages of longer binoculars are as I noticed that many top bins in 8x42 are quite long / tall and cheapo bins tend to be shorter. Can someone tell me the optical advantages the added length brings?

    8x42 or....32...?

    I searched for a nice 8x42 for a while, but am starting to think a 8x32 might be better for me as it is smaller, lighter and usually has a larger FoV. But my question is.... will I as a demanding birder notice the less light gathering capability, somewhat lesser depth of field, more finicky eye...
