    Hoverfly identification

Taken on the south coast of England this morning. I saw this little fly, poor thing moved slightly sideways (really slowly) when I brushed my hand against him. He seemed not to care that my cat was about to eat him. Then I gave him some sugar water, that was more sugar than water. He ate...

Best Micro 4/3 Cam and Lenses for Wildlife Photography & Max Zooms for Micro 4/3?

I am aware that this is an old thread but.... Hi ammadoux I really want to see your photos with the Lumix 100-300 mm. But can see nothing in your gallery at all. I thought it was my browser so I turned everything off & switched browsers but to no avail. I clicked on njlarsen's gallery & some...

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

    I've got currently a Panasonic DMC TZ30 https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonic-lumix-dmc-zs20-tz30-review & a Canon Powershot SX1 IS Bridge camera https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canonsx1is so I'd imagine a G80/G85 might be ever so slightly better. ;)

Horizon 8115 Tripod - Best Head Replacement

I don't want to use a QR system picked for me by the manufacturer I want the freedom to have none at all or one of my choosing. Doesn't make any difference if it is Manfrotto compatible or not. Thanks both of you That Manfrotto looks good I'll have to see if it is available here in the UK...

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

Thanks to you lot (& that nice Nikon chap) my desire for a G80(UK)/G85(USA) has gone from extreme want to must have. Question when the G9 comes out will the prices of the G80/G85 be likely to drop or be unaffected? In the UK that is.

Horizon 8115 Tripod - Best Head Replacement

I'm liking the Kingjoy very much indeed but it doesn't look like I can remove the QR base plate to replace it. Unless anyone knows differently. .... And I've discovered that every dratted tripod head on the market now has an integral QR plate.....arghhhhh! That did not used to be the case 10...

Horizon 8115 Tripod - Best Head Replacement

Genuinely appreciate these I'll be looking through all of them today. Also I'd much prefer a head without an integral quick release plate. I want the freedom to choose my own & change it if I want. I'm hoping to be prepared with a list of *possibles* in time for the black Friday sale on Amazon...

Horizon 8115 Tripod - Best Head Replacement

Hi there I have this tripod & I'm not a fan of its quick release plate, or frankly its head. I can't see that any other quick release plate base is going to fit it as it has a non standard (4 screw) mounting screw setup so... Have any of you got this tripod & replaced either the head or quick...

Collins British Birds OR Collins BTO Guide to British Birds

I went with the first half of your suggestion you recommended BTO over the other one. :t: And I'm definitely going to look for second hand stuff now I've got those two I said above bought. I'm in Sussex, seriously if it moves & has wings around my balcony it seems to be either a herring gull, a...

Collins British Birds OR Collins BTO Guide to British Birds

It will be for at home with my scope setup looking over the rooftops towards the sea (I'm high up) Right on account of how I desperately want juvenile pics as well as adults & I really want photos but recognise how helpful additional sketches are. And bearing in mind that I don't do waiting &...

Collins British Birds OR Collins BTO Guide to British Birds

I just spent 10 mins on Amazon doing the look inside thing with the book you suggested. :) Thanks heaps for the suggestion really appreciate all the help. Only thing with that every second entry seems to be foreign birds that have been released here by accident. It does look good though. I'm...

Collins British Birds OR Collins BTO Guide to British Birds

Thanks heaps for that, really appreciated. I'm now leaning towards the more expensive of my two picks the Collins BTO one. Whilst also having fallen completely in love with the Collins Bird Guide mentioned by Andrew. I have a feeling I'll be getting that as well once they bring out the Britain...

Collins British Birds OR Collins BTO Guide to British Birds

Thanks for answering, I'm definitely in the very much less experienced category (as in none). I realise for you experienced fellas (& lasses) my two picks probably aren't your thing but for someone like me, if you were forced to pick between them would you think one had advantages over the other?
