    Raided the post office yesterday and now have the book in my hand :t::t::-O Reverently placed it on the table and then, blow that ripped off the package and was on page 6 before the cardboard hit the floor.     Just thought of a way of trying different reflections as a way of passing the long dark nights. If you have a large mirror, lay it on the floor and either place objects on it or suspend them from different heights above it. You can then see how the reflection changes as you move around

    Colleen, just guessing but Dunlin 3 may be darker because you are looking at the dark patch on the male breeding plumage. The reflection at that angle is looking further across the chest than can be seen directly on the bird.

    What you see seems to depend on the angle and distance you are viewing from. With a larger object at a distance like this hide, you can see the roof?? Which may explain how you can see the back of a bird If you see it from a distance at a low angle?

    Yes the brown one is a male, in eclipse as you say. Sorry if I added to the confusion. Still nice paintings..

    Love what you've done with the Shoveler. The one you said was female is actually a male in moult from non-breeding to breeding plumage, so painting a male in the same pose actually was right. Look forward to the Dunlin.
