Are these Dusky Myzomela (Honeyeater) from Queensland

I attach two photos of what I assume are Dusky Myzomela (aka Dusky Honeyeater) taken at Kuranda, Queensland. One shows a pink wash on the forehead and cheek. This is mentioned by HBW but I can't find it mentioned elsewhere. The other photo shows what I assume to be a juvenile with a more swollen...

Is this a Fairy Gerygone (Queensland, Australia)

I'm trying to id this bird and the closest I can get is Fairy Gerygone but it doesn't look exactly the same as most photos I have seen. Taken near Kuranda, Queensland so, if it is Fairy Gerygone, it would be in the intergradation zone between G. p. personata and G. p. flavida.

Can anyone help with the ID of these warblers taken from a balcony of Le Meridien Hotel, Abu Dhabi, in December?

    Swallow ? in Bhutan

I attach photos of birds that were seen in April near Deothang, Bhutan at about 1300 metres. Can anyone help me to identify them?

    Damselfly in Suffolk

I attach 3 photos of a damselfly I had near my garden pond in Suffolk on 11th May. I can't identify it but I am new to the world of dragonflies. Can anyone help with the id?

    Buteo in Bhutan

I attach two photos of a bird seen in the Mo Chu Valley (Tashithang Road), Bhutan, in late March this year. I originally thought that it was Upland Buzzard Buteo hemilasius but it has been suggested that it might be Himalayan Buzzard B. burmanicus (a taxon I can find very little reference to)...

    Female Sunbird, Bhutan

I attach a photo of a female Sunbird taken in early April just below the Kori La Pass in Bhutan at a height of about 2,000 metres. From the pattern on the wing and the colour of the sides of the tail I assume that it is a female Fire-tailed Sunbird. Can anyone confirm this?

    Minla (?) from Bhutan

I have a feeling that the id of the attached must be blindingly obvious but I can't work out what it is using Inskipp's "Birds of Bhutan". Can anyone help?

    Falcon and Prinia in Bhutan

I'm just back from a trip to Bhutan which is a new part of the world for me. Could someone with more experience of the area help with the attached photos. In the field, I thought that the falcon was a Peregrine Falcon of the race perigrinator. Now that I am back with my books I feel it is more...

    Blue-crowned Trogon, Brazil

I was just about to upload the attached photo of what I thought was a female Blue-crowned Trogon Trogon curucui when I thought I had better check the tail pattern. On looking up the Handbook, I noticed that the bill colour is illustrated as bright yellow and this feature is mentioned in the...

    White-bellied Parrot, Cristalino, Brazil

There was a small flock of White-bellied Parrots I managed to photograph from the tower at Cristalino Lodge, northern Mato Grosso. The first point is that the yellow uppertail and yellow thighs suggest that this is the sub-species Pionites leucogaster xantharus but all my books suggest that it...

    Black-crowned Night Heron, Chile

Descriptions of this bird always seem to mention that the bill is black in the adult. I attach a photo which shows most of the signs of being an adult except that the bill is dull and yellow on the base of the mandible. I presume that this means it is not fully mature in which case why does it...

    Is this a Spot-billed Ground-tyrant from Chile?

I attach 2 photos of another ground-tyrant which I think is Spot-billed Ground-tyrant Muscisaxicola maculirostris because of its short wings exposing the black tail and the wing-bars. However, it looks a lot less brown than the illustrations that I have. Maybe this was because of the habitat -...

    Ground-tyrant in Chile

I attach 2 photos of a ground-tyrant taken at the Lauca National Park in the north of Chile. I originally thought it was a White-fronted Ground-tyrant Muscisaxicola albifrons because of its pot-belly, its translucent wings and its greyish back but I now think that its wings are too short and its...

    Plain-winged or Cinereous Antshrike, Brazil

I attach 3 photos of male Antshrikes taken at Carajás, Pará, Brazil. I think that the first one is Cinereous Antshrike Thamnomanes caesius and that the other two are Plain-winged Antshrike Thamnophilus schistaceus. Can anyone confirm these ids, please?

    Possible Grey-hooded Flycatcher, Brazil

I attach a photo of what I originally thought was Grey-hooded Flycatcher Mionectes rufuventris taken at REGUA near Rio de Janeiro in Atlantic Rainforest. Looking at it again the underparts don't look nearly ochraceous enough. However, I can't think what it might be if it is not Grey-hooded...

    Spectacled Tyrant - Chile

I attach 2 photos of Spectacled Tyrant taken near the coast south of Santiago in January. I think that one of the birds is a female Spectacled Tyrant of the race andinus showing much less streaking on the breast than the nominate. Unfortunately, the bill is not totally visible but you can just...

    Tasmanian mystery

I attach 2 photos of a bird that I photographed from the Tahune Airwalk in Tasmania. The only bird that I can find that has a tan eyebrow and some sort of streaking on the underparts is an immature Grey Shrike-thrush but this bird seems to have too heavy an eyebrow and too strong streaking. Can...

    Help with Australian treecreepers

I attach 3 photos of treecreepers. I think that the one in Deniliquin, NSW, must be a Brown Treecreeper Climacteris picumnus if only from its distribution but I am wondering if the other bird, photographed at Mildura, Victoria, might not be a White-browed Treecreeper C. affinis.

    Bronze Cuckoo - Australia

The attached photos were taken at You Yangs RP, Victoria in February 2006. I am assuming that it is a Shining Bronze Cuckoo Chrysococcyx lucidus but I would like confirmation. Does the lack of barring across the whole of the underparts imply that this is an immature?

    Galah sub-species - Australia

I attach 2 photos of Galah Eolophus roseicapilla. The bird emerging from a nest-hole was taken at Deniliquin, NSW, in the Murray Basin and shows the sub-species E. r. albiceps with a white crown and pinkish periophthalmic ring. The other photo shows a bird with a greyish-blue periophthalmic...

    Australian Pipit

I took this photo near Bool Lagoon, South Australia in February 2006. I presume that it is an Australian Pipit Anthus australis (aka A. novaeseelandiae australis) but it seems to have heavier and more extensive streaking on the breast and flanks than I would expect from the illustrations and...

    Help with Australian hawks please

I had these birds down as juvenile Brown Goshawk Accipiter fasciatus but am now beginning to have my doubts about one of the birds. The bird on the ground is the same as the bird in the flight shot with the square tail. They were taken at Bool Lagoon near Naracoorte, SA. The shot on the ground...

    Flying or Flightless Steamer-ducks (Chile)

In view of the limit on images posted per day on BirdForum I thought it best to post the two pages on Flying and Flightless Steamer-ducks on my website then ask anyone here their opinion as to whether or not I have got the ids correct. You will find the pages at...

    Steamer-duck in Chile

I attach 3 photos of a steamer-duck photographed off the coast of Chiloe Island, Chile in November 2005. From its pale head and bill colour I assume that it is a male Flying Steamer-duck Tachyeres patachonicus. It seems to have some sort of a growth on its wing which I have seen, though not so...
