I have the VA-5 and it works well with my Swarovski ATS 65 which is also a rear heavy scope.

Thank you for your comments, I am sure the Berlebach is an excellent head but it is a bit pricey. Ben

    Upgrading tripod head

I have a Sirui r-2214 tripod recently purchased and am looking to replace the mvh400 befree head. My scope is a Swarovski ats 65. I am considering the Sirui va-5 or the Manfrotto meh 500. Any advice would be appreciated. Ben.

    10x42 Trinovid HDs

I too have 8x32 BA but for a light 10x42 I would seriously look at the Nikon Monarch HG

    New bin, EL10x50SV

    345 ft at 1000yds is 115yds @ 1000yds and that is identical to 115m @ 1000m. You have to be consistent with units. You are correct that 15.1" @ 10' is 378' @ 1000yds.

    Super-bins Shoot-out: Zeiss SF8x42 meets Swarovski 8.5x42

I have an 8.5x42 SV and I doubt I would swap for a SF because the extra cost would almost certainly not be worth it as the Swaros are that good. However if I was in the market I would definetly want to take a look at the SF due to its wide field of view.

What year did SV start on 10x42 Els

It is 2009 that is the year of manufacture of my 8.5x42 SV EL

    Swarovision Objective Covers?

I have an 8.5x42 SV and a 10x42 EL and the caps on the SV are secure, but the ones on the old EL were always loose.

    Zeiss 7x42 FL size?

Another option is the Swarovski SV 8*32. It has the flat field of the EDG and is about the same size as the EDG 32, however it has the same weight as the Leica and Zeiss. Or in a 42 size the lightest alpha is the Leica Ultravid 8x42 BL. Ben.

    If you had to choose?

I have the Leica 8x32 and the Swarovski 8.5x42 EL SV, and if I could only keep one it would definitely be the EL SVs. The little Leica is very good but the SV is clearly superior.

sv8x32 and sv10x32,whcih one to go?

The field of view of the 8x32 is 141m and the 10x32 is 120m. The apparent field of view of the 10x32 is slightly greater than the 8x32; 64 degrees vs 61 degrees. Ben.

    Ordered the 10x32 SV EL

For someone with small hands like me the ergonomics of the SV are much better than the original ELs which were not bad handling themselves. Ben.

    Ordered the 10x32 SV EL

I actually never had a problem with "rolling ball" and it must have been an 8x30 SLC. It was many years ago and it was more field curvature, which was noticeable when viewing static objects like a street sign. As I said it was many years ago and it made me very happy that I brought the Trinovid...

    Ordered the 10x32 SV EL

Brock as to your question of people who do not see or have problems with rolling ball and using the El SVs and going back to a non flat field binocular; I have the 8.5x42 SV and a Leica 8x32 BA and I have no problem going back and forth between them. I do remember looking through an SLC 30, not...

    Is the FL old hat?

I think the main improvements have been in coatings. I have an EL from 2000 and have brought an EL SV. The colour and the contrast are much better. The difference from a 2009 EL may have been much smaller, as I believe Swarovski regularly update their coatings. Edge sharpness is not all that...

    Help please :)

If you can find a used Leica 8x32 Trinovid in good condition, I can heartily recommend them. I have had mine for 16 years and they are not disgraced by my new EL 8.5x42 SVs. Ben.

Do swarovski EL WB use ED glass?

The new Swarovision EL uses ED glass as well as the SLC HD. The original ELs did not or if they did Swarovski did not advertise it. I have both and the SVs (Swarovision) are a real step up. Ben.

    When a new Leica binocular?

A modern version of the Leitz 7x35 Trinovids would be nice. Since purchasing a SV 8.5x42s last year, I have not been considering any further binocular purchases but a modern 7x35 would be very tempting as they are beautiful binoculars. Ben.

"test driving" the Swarovski 8x30 CL

I have the Leica 8x32 and the SV 8.5x42. Their respective fields of view are:405ft and 399ft. Ben.

SV's didn't really blow the little BN's away!

I have an SV 8.5x42 and it is the best binocular I have looked through, but my 16 year old 8x32 BAs can still hold their own, and as my first alpha binocular, they are keepers. They are still almost like new. Ben.

    Swarovski reliability

I have owned a pair of 10x42 ELs for eleven years and apart from some bubbling of the rubber armouring they are still life new. Ben.
