    Bird watching dalyan Turkey

It looks like the very pale tail may have looked like a white rump at distance. I've turned Marsh Harriers into all sorts of things in the past!

Agree, these photos and time suggest Marsh. Any more pics?

Very much so, its protecting the small beach by the stone jetty, very aggressive towards the Yellow-legged Gulls. No surprises on my list yet!

Great effort. I'm on 42, with 2 of those car assisted with a day to go but won't be doing that much birding so expect little change. Your local knowledge of Corralejo has been a great help, so thanks!

Fuerteventura & Lanzarote Pelagics, Red-billed Tropicbird, etc.

Does anyone know if the Tropicbirds are still present, and if so, are the resident or just come in to breed?

Coming out Feb 7th, staying on the headland. Might bump in to you as I plan a few forays into the NP. It's been 30 years since I was last in Corralejo!

    Mallorca 2016

Are least one Roller still by the roundabout outside Colonia Sant Jordi this evening. At Cap des Selines this evening Skops Owl and Stone Curlew heard but best if all Nightjars calling and in flight.

    Mallorca 2016

Boat trip to Cabrera yesterday, sadly very little Warbler activity, heard but didn't see Balearic and had tantalising glimpses of what was probably a Moltoni's. On the plus side Osprey and Eleanora's showed well, good views of Cory's on the way over - but no Balearic- and an unexpected Storm...

    Mallorca 2016

I was at the Cap from about noon to 14.30. Peregrine, Eleanora's, Marsh Harrier, Booted Eagle and Red Kite plus small parties of Bee-eater and a single Alpine Swift. Nearby Thekla Lark and Redstart. Stint sp at Salinas de Colonia Sant Jordi - looks like a Temmink's with dark legs!

    Mallorca 2016

Temmink's Stint still on salt pans at Colonia Sant Jordi today. This afternoon passage of raptors south included at least 6 Booted Eagle, 4 Red Kite, 1 Marsh Harrier and one Montagu's Harrier. Also 2 Raven. There looked to be a build up of raptors late afternoon so maybe a good movement out to...

    Mallorca 2016

Spent last week on edge of S'Albufera. Goodo numbers of Bee-eater passing through, Little Bittern showing daily. Today at least 11 Marsh Harrier in pre roost. This evening a superb Barn Owl and better still two Skops Owl on the lane to our accommodation.

    Tromso, Norway in Jan/Feb

Hi folks, Firstly, I know that the days are short, and bird variety shorter, ;) but I will be visiting next January for a few ostensibly non-birding days. Does anyone have any up to date advice on local birds, other wildlife, and/or recommendations for Northern Lights and Whale Watching tours...

    Bird watching dalyan Turkey

I think you will be too late for Black-headed certainly. Try contacting Brendan via Twitter (@Dalyanbirding) - he's out there at the moment and had White-throated Kingfisher at a couple of sites nearby also White Pelican. Also @MalkohaBrian is out there or has recently returned so both may...

    Buteo...one that nearly got away.....or?

I can see why in Pic 1 you feel it has a HB head. This feature is not apparent in the other shots, and Pics 2 - 4 don't say anything other than Common to me. You seem convinced that it's a Honey so for you it is a HB. I wouldn't personally tick nor submit the record to my County Recorder based...

    Bird watching dalyan Turkey

For anyone going this summer White-throated Kingfisher can be seen and heard well from the last "platform" on the river just before the small footbridge over the ditch at the north end of the Dalyan river walk. Better still, walk further north about 50m along the pomegranate field and view...

    Collins Bird Guide revised

This caused me to look at the worst review on Amazon which I thought amusing: "This book, whilst giving good illustrations, is rather sparse on information in a lot of cases. The maps are the biggest problem. They are so small, to the point of needing an optical device to view them. Take for...
