    Yellow-billed vs Medium Egret

This paper might help: https://afo.birdlife.org.au/afo/index.php/afo/article/download/2270/2293. "A. brachyrhyncha appears to be more vocal than the other two taxa" "A. intermedia has a longer tail than A. plumifera (1 point), and A. brachyrhyncha has a longer tail than either of the other two...

Florida Ardea Hybrid -- Genetic Testing?

Here are several size comparisons for this individual. I have heard that it is slightly smaller than Great Egret, which seems accurate. Since it is smaller than Great Egret, this may point to Reddish Egret ancestry. Are hybrids always intermediate in size between their parent species? With...

Florida Ardea Hybrid -- Genetic Testing?

Yes, as far as I know, the bird from Fort De Soto is the same individual that I'm referring to. Interestingly, eBird does have reports of Great Blue Heron x Great Egret from two other locations. I don't know if either is trustworthy: Indian River, Florida (2023)...

I did start a chat with them. They have not responded after 2 weeks. Hopefully, they'll get to it eventually.

Florida Ardea Hybrid -- Genetic Testing?

Hello everyone, I've been following the Tampa Bay Ardea hybrid for a while. It has a page on Bird Hybrids devoted to it: Great Blue Heron x Great Egret. Many suspect that it is GHBE x GREG, but others believe it could be GREG x REEG. A recent Reddit post claims that genetic tests have...

    Dark Grey Heron

In addition to the information provided on the Opus, I think this article provides even more detail: https://frank.itlab.us/TBL/Harvesting/Herons/Birding0202p24-33.pdf It is from a North American perspective, but it should still be helpful for you. I'd imagine only members of the race Herodias...

    Probable Great-tailed Grackle?-Trinidad and Tobago

I'm not confident with Grackles, but I thought I'd get the discussion going. From what I can gather, Great-tailed vs Carib is a very difficult ID. The main differences are bill structure, tail length, and overall size. Obviously, we cannot use tail length for this bird. It's also going to be...

Hello from California, In the Sierra Nevada Forest California this past weekend I saw an extraordinary green bird.

Orange-crowned Warbler can look olive-green. More green than Summer Tanager, but nowhere near as bright as the Glistening-Green Tanager. For example: ML177107591 Orange-crowned Warbler Macaulay Library

Which egret is this? Craven County, North Carolina. 9/17/2023

I agree with Merlin. This is a juvenile Snowy Egret. The feet are a much brighter yellow than the legs. Juvenile Little Blue Heron would also show dark primary feather tips, which this bird lacks.

Juvenile Egretta - New Jersey, United States - August

Hello Everyone, This photo is not my own. It can be found on the following iNaturalist post: Typical Egrets (Genus Egretta) © Jane Tatlock Do you think this bird is a Snowy Egret or Little Blue Heron? (Or something else?) I personally believe this bird must be a juvenile Snowy Egret for the...
