    Thanks Val35, I was aware of the website, but how did you see the June records? My French is not great, but I can only find records for the past 15 days! Presumably for Pointe de Penmarc'h I would be looking for west or south westerly winds with birds then re-orientating west?

    I found the woodpeckers fairly easily in Forest d'Iraty this June, no need for tape luring. Just looked for steep damp north facing slope around 1500m as advised by Rosbifs.

    I doubt the Buzzards have caused the shift, they have always been present as have a pair of Sparrowhawks and a Peregrine. I have even seen a Bittern sitting up in the reeds snapping away at them, though never successfully. Dave
