Many thanks to you both. I'm now registered on the website and ready to go!

    SW Brittany

Thanks Val35, I was aware of the website, but how did you see the June records? My French is not great, but I can only find records for the past 15 days! Presumably for Pointe de Penmarc'h I would be looking for west or south westerly winds with birds then re-orientating west?

    SW Brittany

Hi, I'm going on a family holiday based near Plozévet for the last 2 weeks in June this year. Not really expecting any new birds but as I'm within easy striking distance of Pointe de Penmarc'h, Pointe du Raz and Pointe du Van, I'm wondering what prospects there are for seawatching at this time...

    Sacred Ibis in Brittany

Hi guys, thanks for all your help, I failed completely in my quest for Sacred Ibis in the Gulf of Morbihan around Sene, despite checking most of the accessible coast around the peninsular. However I still had an excellent days birding, so I'm not grumbling. I was sorely tempted with a trip to...

    Sacred Ibis in Brittany

Thanks, all signed up and ready. Another question if I may. Is there a website with timetables and bookings for boat trips to Sept Isles? I can't find one with google, but my french isn't that good.

    Sacred Ibis in Brittany

Many thanks to both of you, I have found the sites on my maps, and Lac de Grand-Lieu is probably just too far, so Morbihan it is! What is the seawatching like around Brittany in the first half of June? In Cornwall things don't normally get underway until July. I'm based fairly centrally, so can...

    Sacred Ibis in Brittany

Hi, are there still Sacred Ibis in Brittany and area, or have they all been culled? If still present, where would be the best site to try and see them in June? Thanks in advance. Dave

    Little Egrets

Marazion Marsh would be another good area, also fairly close to Hayle Estuary.

Lac du Der and Foret D'Orient

Winter birding I'm contemplating a winter visit to this area, primarily for the WT Eagles but also for the swans, geese, ducks, Grey-headed Woodpecker and Hawfinch. Can any one advise when is the best time of year to visit to maximise my chances of these species? Also is there a better time to...

    white-backed woodpecker

I found the woodpeckers fairly easily in Forest d'Iraty this June, no need for tape luring. Just looked for steep damp north facing slope around 1500m as advised by Rosbifs.

    Falmouth Birding

Hi Samuel, Interesting, by way of comparison I was at Porthgwarra between 09:15 & 10:45 and had 380 manxies, that's 4.2pm and I certainly missed a lot as I was on my own and was regularly looking way beyond the manxie line. Presumably we pick up more birds the further west you are, or are your...

Drake Hooded Merganser, an American species which is also kept in captivity and has been known to escape/wander. I don't suppose you noticed if it was fully winged or had a ring on its leg? Dave

    Cornwall Birding

I doubt the Buzzards have caused the shift, they have always been present as have a pair of Sparrowhawks and a Peregrine. I have even seen a Bittern sitting up in the reeds snapping away at them, though never successfully. Dave

    Cornwall Birding

For what it's worth, I'm guessing that the sheer volume of birds flattened the reeds until they became unsuitable for roosting and then they moved on. Dave
