    Paul, Saw a 'new, bird in the garden this morning. About the size and shape of a blackbird or thrush but had a grey/blue plumage (like a pigeon). When it sat on the grass it had the stance of a green woodpecker. Any idea what it might be? Ta

    No concensus then, the first is a Sparrowhawk or a Hen Harrier, the second is a Pom or Arctic or Great Skua? Anyone else have a view?

    Hirundines and House Martins in Particular

    Seem somewhat thin on the ground so far this year in the SE, hardly any on my local patch (Beddington SF)- no House Martins at all, does anyone know whether there have been issues in Africa over the winter? Same for Sedge Warblers, we have loads of Reed, but no Sedge.

    Never did the Goodies. YouTube has some unbelievably good footage of Max Miller. My Dad used to go on about how funny he was and when you watch it you see how every modern-day standup comic owes his living to the Cheeky Chappie.

    Have not been there for a few years, but went today and was impressed by the work the RSPB have done there. New car park, no longer full of burnt-out cars, drug-addicts etc. Well done. I think much work has gone into the estate itself, though the mind may be playing tricks in my old age...
