Mate just text - Any ideas?

Paul, Saw a 'new, bird in the garden this morning. About the size and shape of a blackbird or thrush but had a grey/blue plumage (like a pigeon). When it sat on the grass it had the stance of a green woodpecker. Any idea what it might be? Ta

    Feral Pigeons and Birdfeeders

Anyone recommend a feeder that is completely pigeon proof? The sods can stick their Gregory's through the mesh of the standard RSPB job. Any recommendations would be appreciated

    Feeders and the Pigeons

After millions of years of evolution, the pigeons have finally worked out the the mesh on my feeder is no longer an obstacle to filling their crops. A few flaps of their wings and they can get their neck far enough inside to get the sunflower seeds out. They can now empty a reasonable sized...

    Bird Alerts

Dunno if anyone has any views as the best bird alert -> mobile to use in the UK, but I have got fed up with birdguides due to a) Cost b) inability to 'filter' species (it was impossible to turn off Waxwing this winter without turning off everything else), this leads to your credit getting...

Hirundines and House Martins in Particular

Seem somewhat thin on the ground so far this year in the SE, hardly any on my local patch (Beddington SF)- no House Martins at all, does anyone know whether there have been issues in Africa over the winter? Same for Sedge Warblers, we have loads of Reed, but no Sedge.

    Servicing of Scopes

I purchased a Leica APO Televid 77 scope some years ago, second hand and to be honest, I have been disappointed when compared to friends Swaro's. I suspect that the thing needs a professional service, including a bloody good clean!! Is this the sort of thing that you can get done locally? Or...

The Goodies being shown on tv!

Never did the Goodies. YouTube has some unbelievably good footage of Max Miller. My Dad used to go on about how funny he was and when you watch it you see how every modern-day standup comic owes his living to the Cheeky Chappie.

    First in my garden

Getting a rare bird in South London now. Dunno if the parakeets are the cause.

    Cliffe Pools

Have not been there for a few years, but went today and was impressed by the work the RSPB have done there. New car park, no longer full of burnt-out cars, drug-addicts etc. Well done. I think much work has gone into the estate itself, though the mind may be playing tricks in my old age...
